Well consifering I live on theIsle of Long, and do not consider myself a New Yorker. I can certainly see the point of Brits not considering themselves Europeans.
Having Enjoyed a trip to Scotlkand in April, I wouild think they would be more comfortable including themselves in the fold of Scandanavia, FREAKIN COLD mwith a gentle relentless breeze about 30 knots.
NOW I understand their desire for fine single malt Whisky

Why is the word European a dirty word and you don't want to be associated with it, it's only a word. The continent's south of America is considerd "Latin America" or "South America". People in Europe and the Middle East consider America The "West", so I guess that makes me a ...."Western"?

And I always thought America was a British Colony! NEVER a European Colony!! Europe might be a good place to visit - but only knowing that home is always waiting, don't mind if it's Britain or England.

Don't think I said that England is perfect, but we are (mostly) tolerant!

Compared to England/Great Britain, the Europeans have a vastly different culture, different attitude, different opinions, different way of life .... not saying its wrong but its not the way we Brits see life...

I have always lived in the centre of England. However, I would rather be seen as British than English, I don't think the English are that well loved elsewhere. I'm certainly not European in any political context although unfortunately, geographically, you can't argue that we're only a hop skip and a jump away from them.

I'm also ENGLISH, not in any way European. As for belonging to the European Union, would any of you U.S.A. citizens be content to join a club that costs £50 million A DAY and yet hasn't been able to get an accountant to sign off its accounts for over ten years? Unfortunately our Politicians look upon the E.U as a continuation of the gravy train that continues after their term in office has been terminated in this country and only pay lip service to the wishes of the majority of U.K.voters.

Seems to me that at one time the British Empire was the largest empire ever, at nearly 13 million square miles, then it receded to a more managable level, so it may be more appropriate to say that half of the world used to be British.
