Nope.. just because a country gets involved in European affairs does not, I repeat, DOES NOT then make it Europe.

If it did as you say, then USA is no longer USA but in fact Europe, because the USA came in at the last minute and helped Britain win WW II.

Therefore by your statement and theory/reasoning, USA got involved in European affairs and therefore must be Europe. So Britain is, by your own rules and stipulation, as much a part of Europe as the USA is part of Europe. I hope you are beginning to see what the rest of us see, that your reasoning does not hold water when it comes to your idea of Britain and Europe.

What is left? Their self depreciating humor. This is unique, and as Basil said: "You just don't get it!!!'"

Ummm, E.W. I'll grant you the fat ugly bit but we have not been squeezed out of our own language by the American, never have been, never will be. We keep it English, you lot can change it to what ever you wish, we really don't care what you do with it. But don't try to flatter yourself by thinking America is squeezing Britain out of it's language.

As for our humour, it has been described as a sophisticated humour, of which the same can not be said for USA humour.

Hi English Wolf, Yes I am with you much of the way. The essential difference, it seems to me, is that the Americans have a very poorly developed sense of irony and it is the sense of irony that underlies much of British (and Japanese) humour.

I wish I hadn't started this thread in the first place ! ... :|

I thought it would have made for an interesting discussion.. but it seems to me that the non British in here think they know what the majority of Brits want more than we British do... and, at times, comments from some were bordering on offencive ...

Shame.. I'll stay with a few photographs in future!

As I started the first post on this.... here is my final one ...

The "VAST" majority of British want to back away from anything concerning Europe no matter what the cost or what problems doing this may cause us.. "bring it on", we'll deal with it ... There are some serious issues that need to be addressed in the United Kingdom that cant or wont be dealt with whilst we are in any way associated with Europe... and,we can do lots with £53 MILLION per day ...

I wish European countries well for the future but we want out! .. call us what you like... (except Europeans).

OK ... I'm done on this ... over and out!

:hunf:

Dont know why your handle is 'English Wolf' because your clearly American, with a huge chip on your shoulder. If you class the American sitcoms as humor, with the canned laughter, Please read the answer and do not confuse it with 'liking the sitcoms' then I'm pleased to say I enjoy the British sense of humor, at least the laughter is genuine
As to English_Wolf, everyone knows that I am French, not English and certainly not a wolf!!!
Also, if you had read the Brits and French always have had a feud and call each other roast-beef and frog respectively. As to Europe? You should have read what I think of Europe in the previous posts, in this thread.

If you consider the Jersey Island (not really part of anything - except being badly defended by the UK - Only British protectorate invaded by the German in WWII) the distance is even smaller... :-D
Truth to be told the UK is from a few miles (what is 22???) to a couple of hundred, depending where you measure...

Hahaha....Your reasoning is totally skewed. The English involvement with European affairs is totally different from our involvement in the World Wars. You should thank your lucky asses that the United States was inherently a nation of European immigrants.

What are you talking aboUT jOHN? yOU MUST HAVE MY NAME MIXED UP WITH SOMEONE ELSE'S POST.

i HAVE NEVER MENTIONED ANY MILES, LET ALONE 26 MILES (Damn caps lock, sorry about that) in any of my posts. I suggest you excuse yourself and go back and find out who really wrote the 26 miles you speak of. You can then come back and send your response to that person.

Uhhh, no... you should be thanking all those immigrants otherwise you would not have a country to call USA. I think most would agree that it is your reasoning that is totally skewed. And you should be saying thank you to the Brits for helping your guys out in the 2 wars your guys started in Iraq! :-)

Yes....I do thank all of our allies for joining us in Iraq and Afghanistan. In case you haven't noticed, the terrorism that plagued the West prior to these wars has ceased.

And as skewed as you think my thinking may be....you can still thank your lucky asses that the USA is a nation of European immigrants. If you don't....you're a total ingrate. Not only did the U.S. in combination with Allied forces save Europe from the Nazis, but the Marshall Plan helped feed and rebuild Europe after the devastation of the war.

Whether we like it or not we belong to the EU so we are part of europe. Brits still think of themselves as brits, Germans, germans, French, french and so on.
