Lightroom for me,too much emphasis can be put on software, the art is in taking the image as perfectly as possible, to lessen PP.

If you use Nikon check out Captrue NX2;
Paint Shop 5 - presents me with no problem;I sue it whjen Capture won't go as far as I want.
Checking out another on DxO - really looks interesting. Automatically corrects abberations emanating from the camera/lens make up that took the image.
Lightroom accepts AND works with JPEG and RAW imports. Start with Lightroom it will do about anything you want and allow you to get your photos organizied so months later you can find the one you are looking for. Later if you decide to you want/need to do more then add Elements. Lightroom works well with nearly any other program .
His point is relavent, Photoshop CS6 would hang up your machine. I have 8gb and had an older NVidea card I had to buy a new card to get CS6 to work properly and increase memory so it would function without running out of memory (16gb DDR3 1333).

Hi Sarge, thanks for you comments, my PC has 4gig RAM and uses NVidea graphics card. I don't think that has anything to do with it, I use Zoner Photo Studio (which looks like PhotoShop)
PSE, Photomatix, and Dynamic HDR and they are all much faster, easier to learn, than Photoshop on both of my PC's.
I will still persevere with Photoshop, but my favourite still remains Zoner.
Lightroom - you won't regret it. Best invention since sliced bread, indoor plumbing etc.:)

Well I think Lightroom is your majority choice and probably it will also be mine because from what I can understand it integrates well with any future software - not that I'm planning to buy other softwares.
Is it easy to learn to use?
I suggest Paint Shop Pro X5, does it all and relatively easy to learn, Bob.

Yes and no. Not easy but easier than most. I was very intimidated at first. There is so much you can do with it. However the program is so widely accepted there are so many sources for learning it. Just Google about any subject and you will find help. Search YouTube and have more videos than you will ever be able to watch. And Adobe TV (Abobe's in house YouTube) and Abobe Forum are great resources as well. Soon the intimidation will give way to joy for all you can do! Lightroom does work well with other programs.
Hi eland,
I was at Costco last week and PSE 11 was $79.00. I ended up purchasing PSE 11 from Amazon for $49.00. It was a good deal and a good program. Take care & ...
Word of advice... Pick one and master it. Do not jump to another until you feel proficient with your choice. That being said I picked Light Room and Scot Kelbys book at the same time. Then after studying it and following his advice I added a complimentary software like Elements and same advice here by Scots Book and use it. You will not be sorry and good luck with what ever direction you take.
Lightroom works very will with jpgs. It's edits are non-destructive. It has an awesome set of tools for adjusting exposure, highlights, darks, color, contrast, curves, red-eye removal, dust removal, sharpening, noise removal, cropping, straightening etc etc... the list goes on and on. It does 95% of all the editing I need to do. siince it is non-destructive, I can easily start over on an image if I want.
For the other 5%, I use Elements. I use it to clone out unwanted distractions and for making panoramas. If you want ot go further into the world of layers, elements can take you there.
Photoshop Elements. Believe.
