Dogs need to lick...it's an important social condition.

So...I do not discourage it in any way. They use it to communicate...calm down...explore (they can tell where you have been and been doing)...sometimes they just need salt.

When my dog is sitting on my lap, he will usually turn and lick my hand once. Security.

He would do much more though...he knows you don't like it.
It's a form of communication...it's a lot of things...important to them...so I do not discourage.

Funny!

Did you choose your screen name based on your dog(s)?

No...it's meant for the Dire Wolf...but the nomenclature has been changed recently...I'm sticking with the old moniker just the same.

I love doggie licks. This is one of their ways to communicate. He is in a warm comfortable place with plenty of food and lots of love and attention. The best is when we are in bed. He crawls under the covers, to stick his cold wet nose on our feet. Yeeooow!

Our 100 pound Chessie insists on sleeping under the covers with us every night...great in the winter time.

Have to push the A/C a bit in the summer...but totally worth it.

Bentley was an underweight Albino Labrador Retriever with a pink nose and reddish eyes when we rescued him. About a month later he had little black splotches on his belly. We brought him to the vet who told us he isn’t albino but a mix with a Dalmatian. He is a loyal and loving and had been with us for 8 years.
