Never had a high opinion of the Gallery ,,, but has it now really sunk *THAT* low ?

Yes it has photos, but very little that should end up in a gallery.

After observing a quite embarrassing exchange with a brand new member who dared to pist some photographs in an introductory post here yesterday, I went on a search to find the actual posted written rules forbidding photographs in this forum. I looked in all obvious spots for a specific ruling. I intentionally omitted looking anywhere that required any level of mind reading or ExtraSensory Perception. I found nothing. Nada. Zilch.

In fact, in the rules for this section, the very first specific instruction I found covered not only "How to post a picture," but also how to "Store Original," in order to post it with higher resolution.

My intent here is not to pick a fight. I'm sure this post is well along a path of being moved. But if this forum is to survive, it is time to start focusing on what matters. Photograps are generally not evil on a photography forum.

Then why even bother with a photo gallery and main photography discussion sections?
Just combine them.

There are rules in the Photo Gallery saying that is the place to share photos, but that doesn't do any good for those, especially newbies, who assume Main Photography is the place to post photos. It also says photos can be appropriate in Main Photography when used to illustrate a point. But the enforcement seems very inconsistent. I made a post showing a sample of what can be done with PS Generative Fill, and it was moved to the Gallery. Meanwhile, there were multiple posts on text-derived AI images, which aren't photographs at all, but they didn't get moved to the new AI section.

Your granddaughter is just like one of mine, she really knows how to play a crowd. They do something wrong, bat those baby blues at you and you melt into a puddle and they’ve gotten away with it.

The OP is not a brand new member, but has been a member since 2014.
This is from the Photo Gallery rules https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-426-1.html

Very nice shots and one adorable granddaughter.
Please ignore any snarky remarks. Every forum has a few and it may always be that way, but I'm hoping for a much kinder 2024.

Excellent observation! But, I think we have to expect general negativity from certain members.

In the Gallery, only brief admiring comments are seen as acceptable. Pix posted in general discussion are subject to whatever nature of commentary they might provoke. Over in the Gallery section, that could be "Great set" and "Adorable subject". In the general discusion section it could be "Good exposure and focus but trite and boring content". Two different venues for displaying ones pix. Perhaps we need a subforum called "My Grandkids" ? It could be quite heavily trafficked !

ENOUGH! To those bitching about my accidentally posting to main section rather than to gallery (which is where I indeed intended to post it), get a life. In fact get over yourselves. This self righteous BS is ignorant. I f’d up, ok? Find something else to nitpick. Your act is wearing thin.

I really like all of your photos no matter where they are. She has beautiful eyes and cute smiles, and your photography is great.

I found the same thing or lack of anything for the same reason (having checked earlier). The section "police" have no basis for criticism. Some members must imagine text. So the Admin can do as it pleases as usual. No fault by new members.
