I would like to install Adobe Elements' latest addition. What happens to my catalog in Lrc? Is the catalog now accessed from Elements? I do not want to lose any of my pictures.

I don't know if the catalogs are compatible between the two programs, I'll guess not.
You'll probably have to build a new catalog in Elements.
But your pictures themselves do not exist IN THE CATALOG.
They exist in directories on your drive where you put them.
The catalog is simply a <database> LIST of your images that editors use.
The cataloger goes and makes a list of what files are in what directory on the drive.

There is no connection between the two programs whatsoever, other than the fact that both come from Adobe.

That's what I would think.

When you drop your CC subscription the Develop and Map modules stop working. All your image files remain. Your catalog remains. All of your edits remain within the catalog. You can Export image files from the Library module. I'm not sure, but I think you can set up "Edit in Photoshop Elements" from the Library module.

In other words, you have no risk of loosing your image files or any work you did on them.

One caution is that the subscription is an annual contract with the option to pay monthly. Adobe probably expects you to stick with the annual agreement.

I miss read your post.

If you are adding Photoshop Elements and keeping the Lightroom Classic system going, nothing happens. If it doesn't add Elements to the "Edit In..." list you can make it do that. If you are keeping your Classic system running, there is no need to use Organizer for anything. You will not access Lightroom Classic from with in Photoshop Elements.

Elements does not use your Lightroom catalog at all. If it isn't removed when you uninstall Lightroom you can just delete it since it would no longer be needed. You would not lose your pictures when you delete the catalog because your pictures aren't stored in the catalog.

Start a chit chat with Adobe. If their computer helper cannot help, he/ she will direct you to a person. Works very slick, just used them 2 days ago to solve a problem.

However, you WILL lose all of your edits, keywords, and other metadata associated with your photos, all of which information is stored in the catalog.

Before you make the move to Elements change your preferences to create an .XMP file for all of your edits. The Lightroom CC will create the sidecar file for each of your edited photos. This sidecar file will have all of the edits n it and can be read by Elements. I have my Lightroom set up this way in case my catalog ever gets corrupted again I still have my edits. Creating the .XMP files will take some time so be patient

It is easy, I did it for thousands of photos. Lightroom does it in the background for the full catalog once the setting is changed.

Your photos are on an internal or external drive. They are not in Photoshop of LRC. The edits of the photos are in LRC catalog.

All true but the old edits if valuable may lost as they are in the LR catalog or sidecar .xmp file. Does elements support xmp files? If not your edits will be lost.

Well the title of his post is “Dropping LR & PS” so it sounds like he’s NOT keeping them. It really makes no sense to add Elements as an external editor to LR.
