Whispers of Wonderland

Mr. Rabbit is whispering about the world down the "Rabbit Hole" and "Through the Looking-glass." Words of meeting Alice, and helping the Mad-Hatter since she is a Psychologist.

Her father, dPullum, has helped photographers afflicted with "Alice in Wonderland syndrome (AIWS). This "affliction" affects how photographers perceive the size of things seen around them, fail to crop images to the story, lack the feel or look of their camera sensors and their subject's body, or both; often blaming lens foreshortening distortion. It can also distort their sense of reality and ruin the way others view their images. They fail to crop to the story as is correctly shown in this image.

When doing competition photography in the TBCClub the next month's image was on the cabinet over my Coffee Espresso. While Mr. Coffee was doing is squirting and steam belching my eye would see image errors that were not obvious the previous day. When writing tech reports decades ago I would wait a month before submitting them, time passes and the image or words become less mine.
With the passage of time, I can critique my own as though generated by someone else.

In the above image, there is an excess bottom. The image cropped below the fingers about the same space as ear-to the-border is better. Then some color differences must be cleaned.
Simple rule, that which does not add detracts from the image's appearance.

Critiques and suggestions welcome:

IMO the crop certainly helped this image. I'm not quite sure what's going on with the woman's eye. It looks deformed to me. Also, there appears to be some chromatic aberation along the bridge of her nose and forehead.

Thanks for the article, it was an interesting read.

Good point, the sharpening of the image was corrective of the hair, but excessive of eye squint lines of the SOOC. Cloning from the original image would have smoothed that area. Likewise, the sharpening exaggerated the line around the nose. Thank you Fstop.

I'm starting to get paranoid. Are there bugs in my house listening to everything I say? This article just came into my email. I subscribed to his emails a long time ago. I attended a presentation he put on a few years ago on editing in Photoshop and Lightroom. He's an amazing Photographer! One thing from the talk that I will always remember is he said," I remember when I was a kid, sitting in the kitchen and listening to my dad and Ansel Adams talk about Photography and developing images in the darkroom". Anyway, here is his article on Halos - How To Avoid & Remove Them In Your Images

I think you could crop some more from the bottom Don - to within a whiskers-width of the first finger fingernail, that makes it a whisper in the ear.

I did photougry, [photo surgery] cloning the original photo to the sharpened photo and like a cosmetic surgeon smoothed the eye lines...

magnetoman, crop suggestion followed in this re-do. Correct magnetoman, the story is the rabbit whispering.

I did a quick read of the article and will study it in detail later... I will hunt out an article PDF on mental illness and art,
Here is one for you... "The best American artists + writers of my time = alcoholics or on the verge of alcoholism; or megalomaniacs; or hysterics. Pollock, Faulkner, F. Lloyd Wright, Still, Newman, de Kooning, Rothko. On the other hand, the manic-depressives" The author confesses: "Cal [Robert] Lowell, Delmore Schwarz . . . . David Smith a hysteric? Ken Noland a manic-depressive like me."

Based on TBClub compulsive editing was a mild obsession. If you do not have anyone to share the photo with why bother? My miss my dear Shane, we would go on a shoot and then sit and jointly pick choose, and edit. She is presently living in Mexico teaching. For about 2 years she wandered between Indonesia, Nam, and Cambodia. Indonesia was her favorite.

We have yet to hear from the ladies in the group.

Thank you Fstop... photo editing and creation is not an easy task. Letting the photo get cold on the cabinet above the Mr. Coffee Espresso machine [modified by dgp] was a good way to edit with a marker circling the problem errors. That is how I won 3rd place for the year average at the TBCC... 3rd was fine, after that, I stopped doing the assignment and did general for my fun. At the club every photo was critiqued to the nth degree; a great learning experience.

The story here is of course the whispering rabbit, not my daughter. She only responded when the rabbit was reciting
from William Shakespeare's famous words spoken by Marc Antony to Julius Caesar, " Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. She did not make the same mistake sadly made by Vincent van Gogh, she only listened to the Rabbit's tempting invitation.

Ah, but I meant the ladies First Finger, not the first one from the bottom Don! C’mon, make that rabbit earn her buck (no pun intended!).

Do you mean like this? with only one finger holding the rabbit? Feel free to down load and execute the downloadable one.

Yes, that’s the crop, but I wouldn’t remove the remaining part of the second finger. I’m afraid I don’t play with other folks pics Don - simply because I’ve always got too many of my own on the go!

Yes, understood. Enjoyed playing with this one, but got work to do. Thank you both and I am almost tearful the ladies did not find my Motherhood worthy of an Apple Pie comment.

I’m sure they’ll be along - might be taking a while to stop stroking the rabbit!
