I was amazed by the size of this eagle nest. With the Salish Sea lapping at the nearby shores this eagle has created what I like to call the Taj Mahal of Skagit County.
While I didn't climb the tree with a tape measure, it seems that a nearly 3 foot tall eagle, with a nest that's 3 times its height!

I wonder what the honey-do list has for today?

And no wonder, Rob. This way the parents protect the eggs and subsequently little babies from rough weather and “uninvited guests”. Most likely, the pair returned to the nest that they had built and used in previous years. Nice work!

Cool photos, Rob! And they will continue to add to the nest, year after year, until it collapses under it's own weight. Or breaks the limbs it's sitting on. Either way ... disaster for the babies, if it happens when they are very young! I'm waiting with baited breath to see the documented supporting evidence after you climb up there with your measuring tape!...

Still waiting!!!

Great photos and story. Impressive.
Some Eagle nests can way over 1,000 pounds. We have some huge nests in my area too.

Thank Eugene! It's likely they've been building on this one for at least 5 years to my knowledge.

I hope you're a patient person, Chief!! I wouldn't survive the attempt even if the parents didn't attack me. Gave up tree climbing a few years back..

I bet you do, when the fishing is good they don't need to go anywhere else! Thanks for stopping in and your kind comments!
