What is your definition of a long red light? Where are you going that you can't wait at a red light for a minute or two for your turn?

Yes! It's rare to see someone walking without looking at a phone. I saw a man walking alongside a busy highway yesterday. He was walking with his head down, looking at his phone. What I find annoying is people walking slowly through parking lots and looking at their phones.

That's where you need a really loud horn. Get some of these idiots attention! Of course in today's world you might make that person mad for scaring him, and he might shoot you!

With all the new sensor technology, they should make an effort to create flow. That would save lots of time and gas.

Also annoying is people walking across the intersection while looking at their phone or they start across with ten seconds remaining and take there time getting across while looking at their phone.

Get rid of the posterior portal drivers who blow through it.....

Agreed. There are so many drivers that think a rolling stop (?) is okay at a red light. Don’t get me started on turn signal use.

Many people have been killed by cars turning "right on red," so the authorities are considering ending that practice. Drivers often just roll right through the red light, and they don't see pedestrians until they hit them. Someone from a drivers' organization is in favor of keeping the law because he said that those deaths amount to only 1% of traffic deaths. He thinks the purpose of eliminating that law is to make driving "as miserable and difficult and miserable as possible so people don't drive so much."

One thing I don't like about turning right on red is the car behind me. Very often, the driver is surprised that I stop before turning. I expect to get run into one of these days.

[i/]From 2010 to 2021, pedestrian deaths increased from 4,302 to 7,624, a 77 percent rise, according to the federal data. Jun 27, 2023[/i] 1% of 7,624 = 76 dead people. That's not so bad, right?

I am seeing more and more people running the RED light when they are in line behind a bunch of vehicles that are turning LEFT on the Green light, just because they do not want to wait another minute or minute-and-a-half to go on the Next Green light!

Dear Jerry,

The guy who wants the law continued because as he said it's only one percent of traffic deaths sounds nice except if you are in the one percent,am I correct ?

It would probably be more impressive to give the number of people killed rather than the percentage.

When you come up to a corner where you are going to turn right if the light is red you are supposed to stop, and then turn right. It is the law.

You’re right of course, but two things 1) no one wants to pay more taxes to hire more police officers to uphold the law, and 2) no one wants to pay more taxes to add a signal telling people when they can proceed around the corner. It is way much easier to lose 7000+ people you don’t know than to pay a little more to solve the problem (as long as they are not your family members). And that goes for most of our societal problems.

The problem is all of those posterior portal drivers that don't stop like you or I do.
