And thats the quandry I'm in. I heard that Nikon is moving out of DSLR cameras complete and going to latest tech, most of which I dont totally understand nor can afford.
Don't worry about it until your camera doesn't work anymore. Even then there are adapters for the F-mount lenses. (not all can be used) Or you can just pick up another used D??? to use. Just because there is new tech out doesn't mean the older don't take great photos anymore. Welcome to the Hog!

Thanks TC,
Here's the issue- My D5000 is 15 yrs old and is wearing out. The auto focus drive is dragging and slow.
Have multiple lenses for it Tamron mostly. Love the camera, but able to upgrade either

Only issue I have with Canon is that its not Nikon!
As far as keeping the Mrs happy, I usually head out this fishing gear and a camera, that way if fish arent biting, I can always grab some scenery.
Welcome aboard. You sound almost exactly like me in that I am usually fishing, taking photos or both or hunting or all three.
The major PLUS of having a Canon camera is the ability to use it for its most likely usage, a boat anchor. Canon isn't a bad camera but the worst part of a Canon, as you so well point out, it's not a Nikon.
But let's face it. Someone has to buy inferior products. Why not Canon users?

Welcome to the forum! Great that you are both a photographer and a fisherman; you can really understand from both avocations the joys of the great catch, and the disappointments of "the one that got away". Don't be too disappointed about the trends away from DSLRs. The D3 will be functional and relevant for generations to come. I prefer the versatility & light-weight of my D750, and was contemplating the possibility of a mirrorless Z8. I would miss the familiar "swing-slap" of the mirror action, which I've known since 1973. Whatever you choose, of course stay with Nikon, but Canon people can still be your friends, I never met one I didn't like.

The D5000 has been my go to for 15 yrs. But the focus on it isnt as sharp as it used to be and the auto focus really drags.
Sorry to say, I dont have that many Canon friends. Maybe I do, they just wont admit it in mixed company.
