Light Room Upgrade

I upgraded to the current iteration of Light Room, and it is completely foreign from previous editions. Maybe I'm
old fashioned and reluctant to change, but I find the new format to be unworkable, it doesn't recognize a lot of my files, and every thing has changed. If this is the future for Light Room, they have lost me and I'll migrate to another post processing application. Does anyone else had the same problem?

Lightroom Classic 13.0 was so buggy they put out an update the next day 13.0.1. Download it and it should fix all your problems, it did mine

There are multiple Lightrooms now. It can be confusing because various versions are optimised for phones, tablets, computers, web browsers and can have server storage or local storage.

If you are a traditional Lightroom user like for version 6 and earlier, you should find what is now called Lightroom Classic familiar and comfortable. If you are working with what Adobe calls "Lightroom", it won't be.

Everything hasn't changed, a bit of an exaggeration. Do you think it will be easier migrating to another post processing application, that will have a completely new learning curve?

Carl, you upgraded from what version to what - 13.0 or 13.01? If it was 12, just say 12.

I was one of the first to sound an alert as I am currently processing about 15 days of shooting; however, the fundamentals have not changed. The system is working as it should.

Bill is right. When I teach LRC I make a point it is LRC only and I will not address any other questions\issues.

Oh, joy! another "Why doesn't Lightroom work for me?" thread.

I have noticed a problem with some old files. The masking tools come in two versions (both under the masking button in the develop module). The first 4 use AI to produce a mask (sky, subject, background, and object). The rest work the way they used to (gradients and brush -- I haven't done much with the range mask yet). I was using the subject and background masking a lot with old files until I got back to about 2012. They work back to that point but earlier files are spotty. Some of them don't work with the AI masking and some do. Some of them work with Photoshop but I haven't tried a lot of them that way and the masks seems to be a bit different in PS.

I use LrC, not Lr. Most recent update (about 2 days ago).

I upgraded to 13.01. The format has changed, and it does not recognize folders within folders. For example, after a trip I organized my folders according to the trip, and now I have to individually go to each date, rather than open the trip folder. And within each trip folders I mark those items worth additional processing as well as grading them according to my star system. If I can revert to the older system through backups, I will; or I will learn another system. I'm and old dog at 82 years young, and I'm not keen on learning new trips!

I forgot to say, I'm using Lightroom Classic, and don't use cloud option as I have several backups of my work.

I don't pay attention to folders when using LrC. Instead I place keywords on images and organize them into collections or smart collections. LR doesn't care where the images are, but with the keywords and collections I can find anything easily. You can filter on date without using folders. I'm still learning things at 84.

I understand, but starting years ago, that was what I used, and it has served me well, until now. I do use keywords, but only for species and seldom for the location. Color me very disappointed for the change in the interface and format of LRC!

Carl S.,
Do you honestly think that moving to and learning a completely new editor will be quicker than learning the changes in the new version of Lr?
Consider what migrating all of your existing photos and the embedded changes (XMP files) will require...
Did you migrate to the newly updated version of the Lr catalog? If not, that may be why some of your files are not recognized.
My two cents...

It recognizes the files, but not the files that I use to separate the daily files into trips. Today, it just refuses to open, and give me an explanation. I tried a restart, but that didn't helpI have used other editing applications, so it should not be a real problem. I use a MacBook Pro, M1 Max, 64gb memory, Sonoma 14.0, 14 inch, 2021. 2 gb hard drive. I use Photoshop infrequently since LRC does the bulk of the editing I need. The interface is different, it seems to be locked up on transferring an image to the cloud. The interface is different, and if something ain't broke, don't mess with it!

Did you upgrade the LrC Catalog to the new format?
