Thanks for your encouraging comments about updates on the R3. But I'll wait until I'm back to do it, I think.

Just be sure you have a fully charged, relatively new battery in the camera, and that you use a blank, formatted-in-the-camera memory card to do the update. Follow the camera manufacturer's instructions to the letter and you will be fine. Updates can take longer than you think they should, so be patient with the system.

I have used WAZE on 6 cross-country trips. From Florida all the way to BC and Vancouver Island. And with very exceptions, successfully.

Thanks. The first update I did went rather well, I think. Maybe when I get back and won't be using the camera every day for awhile, I'll brave the rest of them.

I'll look into it. I'm also due for a new cellphone that I intend to get when I get back. Maybe then I'll have space enough to download some of these neat things.

I recently received notice that there are several updates for the R3……

I too was reluctant at first to do updates. Then I was worried about something called “Ransomware.” I had went to the Canon website. I downloaded it to a fresh SD card. Then I labeled it and loaded it into the camera slot by itself. I followed the directions and voila!
Now my 5D is functioning well without any hitches. I would like to mention that the R3 pulls more charge from a battery. I think it may be prudent to buy an additional battery for good measure.

I've not heard of that. One of the things i liked about my phone was warnings of speed traps. That's when it works correctly.

That is IF a prior driver through the area has reported to the App you are using.

I've never updated my 5D. Didn't know there were any.

You can always use your phone as a GPS, Kathy. The WAVE navigation app is very good, and it's always automatically up to date. if your car is new enough, this can also work right through it, and you don't have to do a thing except tell it where you want to go.

WAVE or WAZE? The latter is the one I use. It's great!

I do use my phone's GPS, but it doesn't talk to me like my GPS does, even though I unmute it. So I have to keep looking at it to not miss turns, etc. Annoying. I'm on blue tooth in my truck, but I've never gotten the maps to work on the truck. It wants to use its own GPS, and it's so outdated and also doesn't talk to me unless I keep pushing buttons. Not going to happen on strange, busy city freeways going 70 MPH!

Get WAZE! It's incredible! And free!

When I have a phone with sufficient memory, I'll look at it. Thanks!

I think they're supposed to. Mine does sometimes, and it's pretty good at telling me stuff. But usually it doesn't.

I know this may sound silly but are all the volumes turned up on your phone? My phone has 4 different volumes. If they are not all turned up some of my stuff doesn't work correctly.

Be sure you do not have “do not disturb” turned on. That’s the one I often forget when my phone map doesn’t speak to me. On my phone, the volume controls will not override do not disturb.
