We should stop bringing up the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” line. The owner of this forum (a person known as Admin) has decided that the Digest format change is a good idea that supports his goals for his forum. I suspect he knows a bit more about running a forum than any of us do. He certainly knows more about his objectives than we do.
The owner of the forum should make it attractive and useful to the perusers--not something annoying. Otherwise, he's just a tyrant imposing his will on the majority. I don't like tyrants! And I hate the new format. Even his proposed fix is stupid-requiring the viewer to do something extra.
Return to the old format.

What makes you think that users who can’t adapt to change are in the majority?

Old format - I'm looking at today's posts for the section I have chosen to watch.
New format - have to scroll the entire list of topics, access the one(s) I'm interested in, then search out the current date -
Both formats have advantages and disadvantages. Still weighting which I most prefer.
...and so the 'Filter' button in Latest Digest doesn't help or you don't use it?

Do you realize that it's only the digest which has been changed? Many of us have never used the digest, and we enjoy the site just fine. Have you even read Admin's reasons for changing the digest, or suggestions for other ways to use the site before calling him a tyrant?

I like it too, the old digest only showed me the sections that I follow and only if there were new topics or new posts to an old topic.
With the new "format" I click "Home" and go directly to the sections that I follow daily and see new topics or new posts to an old topic.
Gee! one extra click! A couple of extra milliseconds! Maybe I should threaten to leave the forum!
Nah, that would be petty.

Tyrant?? Wow! 😳 (I think a tyrant would have been charging you for accessing his forum….)

For some reason your comment really annoys me.

Existential angst isn't pretty.
First couple of days I didn't like the change until I discovered I could filter by section. Now I like the new. I filter for "Main Photography Discussion", click home then filter "General Chit-Chat" go back to home and filter for "Buy, Sell Trade - Classified"..... it's easy. I don't have to scroll down through all the sections I have registered - can go straight to the section I want.

For me, the subject has become a study in human nature.
Yes, existential angst ain't pretty.

We may not be psychologists (well, I'm not anyway), but we can play them on UHH!

It’s gratifying to see some of the initial opponents of the Digest format change come around to “maybe it ain’t so bad after all”.
And then, maybe, just maybe we can get back to discussing the effect of bird dandruff on feather sharpness in BIF photos shot with a 1,000 mm off-brand lens bought from Temu with coupons.
(Just kidding, folks….🙂)

Being attractive is subjective, as is being useful, ditto annoying.
While he is imposing his will on all of us (not just the majority), he has the right to do that because he owns the site. We use the site at his pleasure. For free, yet. That doesn't sound like a tyrant to me.
You have a remedy if you don't like the new format: don't use it. The digest is the only thing that has changed and I am proof that you can use (and enjoy) UHH without ever touching the digest. What you see there is not representative of UHH anyway. It's only a selection of threads. You will get much more use out of UHH if you use the whole system, not the digested part.

OK, so let me explain the issue (AGAIN) and then I’m unwatching and not arguing. Of course you don’t need to use the digest to use UHH! And if you don’t or didn’t, why even comment - you don’t have a dog in this fight.
If you did, here’s the problem for a good portion of the users (must be a little bit of an issue or there wouldn’t be 30+ threads on the subject). The old format allowed you to scam the thread title, poster and number of replies in as many sections as you subscribed to at a glance and decide which to open. If you watched a lot of sections, just scrolled down. If you use the new format and have it sort by section (which is somehow supposed to be a fix), you have to OPEN each section and scan it and open each topic you wish to see. If you watch 20 sections as I do, NOW, I would have to do this exercise 20 times and that’s a PIA. The result is I no longer open every one, because it’s a PIA. I open the main ones and now I just usually skip the others. So the net-net for me is I now essentially ignore the smaller sections.
Now why is this issue so damn hard to understand?
And while I’m at it. The comment that It’s a free forum and we post at the pleasure of the admin as if it’s a gift misses an.important point. It’s a two way street. No forum, no members, BUT no members, no forum. Admin creates the venue, but WE contribute the content, and if you make the venue less attractive to a portion of the members, you get less content and that hurts the venue, which is the opposite of the stated purpose of the change. Our participation DOES have value to admin and it’s jus plain good business to make your venue is easy to use for your customers/patrons/users as possible. My time isn’t free, and how members use their limited time with respect to the forum deserves consideration, especially when 30+ thread state that there’s a problem with the change.
End of rant.
