The New Format

OK, we've had the new format here for long enough to evaluate it. So, what are your thoughts? Improvement? Annoying? Don't care?

I dislike it, a lot. There were a couple sections I would always look at, and then just sort of scan the others for interesting titles. Now we have to either wade through all the messages, or filter for one section at a time.

Admins: How about an option to use the old format?

I don't use it. Old or new format. Now I learned that the digest based on most popular subjects and what I am interested in generally not the most popular.

Annoying. Unnecessarily convoluted. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I accept the change and I'll continue to use it but I don't think it improves the site. UHH's explanation was that the changes will result in more users clicking on more posts, across all the topics. Personally, I find myself clicking on fewer posts. I go to "Home" where my selected topics are listed but for some reason I'm less inclined to keep going through them, checking the date, to ensure I'm not looking at old posts. Just me, I suppose.

I vote "if ain't broke don't fix it." In other words, I prefer the old version. I agree with Stu352.

Might be an "old" post, but it's a new reply.....
Some are not interested on old posts regardless of what someone may have recently replied.

Imagine if there was a format that catered to everyone.
There would only be hundreds of formats.

I personally don't like it. Before like some others I would scan through the photography section then photos and birds and only open one if it really was something I was interested in and then look at the general chit chat section. I would look at for sale depending on time. Now, I just look at general chit chat and exit. I really get much less enjoyment out of the site. I know that I can sort and sort and work my way through anything I like but I don't have the time to do that all morning. To me this sucks!

There is no "new format", just changes in the digest. I've never used the digest so nothing has changed for me. Have you tried the many suggestions to do the same thing without the digest which have been posted on the many, many posts on this topic?

Old format - I'm looking at today's posts for the section I have chosen to watch.
New format - have to scroll the entire list of topics, access the one(s) I'm interested in, then search out the current date -

Both formats have advantages and disadvantages. Still weighting which I most prefer.

We should stop bringing up the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” line. The owner of this forum (a person known as Admin) has decided that the Digest format change is a good idea that supports his goals for his forum. I suspect he knows a bit more about running a forum than any of us do. He certainly knows more about his objectives than we do.
