Nicely shot John Matthew. The vultures really add to the feeling.

Like the sepia effect and explanation. Back in the '60's, my dad dragged our singular telephone pole down the road to our house behind his father's '40's era Ford tractor. We dug a hole by the driveway and attached a basketball hoop & home-made backboard. Stayed there for 40 years. (Also noted the vultures, makes it all eerier.)

This one was built back when a farmer or builder went to the electric or phone company and bought their used poles to build barns with. It has served as a cattle barn for as long as I can remember. My friend Richard Fish's father built this one back in the 1940s. After Richard passed away, his sons are now still using it as a cattle barn. I also caught a few crows in the shot.

We still call them pole barns, but today's structures are really post barns, built with solid or laminated posts.

Great shot and good story about the source of the term, pole barn.
