A Real Pole Barn

This one was built back when a farmer or builder went to the electric or phone company and bought their used poles to build barns with. It has served as a cattle barn for as long as I can remember. My friend Richard Fish's father built this one back in the 1940s. After Richard passed away, his sons are now still using it as a cattle barn. I also caught a few crows in the shot.

We still call them pole barns, but today's structures are really post barns, built with solid or laminated posts.

Nicely shot John Matthew. The vultures really add to the feeling.

Not sure about the poles, but it could have been used illustratively in "The Grapes of Wrath."
