I received a email saying my Nikon Z9 had a update for 4.01. I knew I just did 4.0. It also had a download file button. I thought this was odd. I looked on website and did not see and update for 4.01....

I got the same email from Nikon. The link takes you to the Nikon website. At the Nikon website, you have to select Mirrorless cameras, and then z9 and it will take you to the firmware update.

Here is another link:

...yah, well I recieved the email from Nikon announcing the update, clicked on the link provided, proceeded to download the update (as I always do) into my 'puter. Then went through the details of what the update involved. It's mostly vid stuff so I saw no hurry to actually do it. <shrug> I think it's a good update, what's your issue?

I guess the "Beware Nikon" title of the thread is a bit silly.

Ignorance is bliss. -

Updated to 4.01 mid morning. Took it out for spin and everything seems fine.

...and that is the reason you would head a post with 'Beware Nikon'. Whatever has occurred does not warrant such a headline. If this was an 'honest' error, where is your understanding, compassion, patience, etc.

I guess that no one has ever sent out a post 'Beware Keywest 305' upon a mistake made by you.

Beware Keywest 305, the time is coming!

REALLY! " Beware Nikon". WHY? For what "VALID" reason should we should we be aware of Nikon? There quality products? There wonderful service centers? The great price for their flag ship Z9? Making excellent optics?
This post should be taken down by administration, it is misleading, inappropriate, and frankly dishonest towards a great company.

In a world of so many scams and malware, often under cleverly disguised, commonly recognized, reputable companies, such as Norton, Social Security, Microsoft, Pay Pal etc., it is understandable that keywest 305, would be suspicious of a second firmware update so close to the previous one. Who knows for sure it is Nikon anymore? A clever scanner (who may love another brand!) could be sending out a CPU scrambler that will totally discombobulate your Nikon Z9. He may be acting on the side of caution. Glad to hear that Firmwares 4.0 and 4.01 are working fine for those who installed them, so, not malware, but I can understand 305's concern.

It amazes me how people can take a story pass it around and by the end of the line it is a different story. All I said was I received an email from an unknown source about a Z9 upgrade. The email had a downlowd button which led me nowhere. I thought maybe a scam and just a warning to be on the lookout. I owned Nikon my whole life and never once said it wasn't a top notch product. Some people must be so bored the create what is not there and make it there. Wow! Good luck

There is a new update for the Z8 and Z9. Apparently, there will be a lot of these as Nikon adds features.
