(quote) 'The Nikon Z8 has won the Camera of the Year trophy at the EISA Awards – presided over by the Expert Imaging & Sound Association.

It marks the second time that a Nikon camera has won the award in recent years, with the Nikon Z6 picking up the gong in 2020. Notably, while Sony and Fujifilm have both won EISA Camera of the Year Awards, Canon never has.

The award comes at a fortuitous time for the Nikon Z8, which has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons lately following two product recalls over manufacturing issues.

While Nikon took home the most prestigious prize, it was Sony that had the heaviest trunkful of trophies after picking up five awards: Advanced Full-Frame Camera for the Sony A7R V and Content Creator Camera for the Sony ZV-E1, with the Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G winning Lens of the Year, the Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 GM getting Standard Prime Lens, and the Sony Xperia 1 V taking Multimedia Smartphone.

For Canon's part, it scored the Full-Frame Camera Award for the Canon EOS R6 Mark II, Best Buy Camera for the Canon EOS R8, and Telephoto Lens for the Canon RF 135mm f/1.8 L IS USM.

Here's the full list of winners in the Photography category. To see all the winners across all groups, head to the EISA Awards website. https://eisa.eu/awards/

The Z8 has strap lugs issues. It (and the Z9) are supposedly wildlife cameras, but the PreCapture mode is JPG only.

The Z8 does solve a problem I have, but I'm not willing to pay $4K for that solution.

I'm waiting for a real camera.

Is that supposed to make me feel better having got mine ready this afternoon to hand into the dealer tomorrow who's going to send it off on a flight to Australia for its recall checks.

How am I going to survive using the Z6 whilst I await its return

They do mention the strap lug issue in the linked article.

They do mention the strap lug issue in the linked article. Nikon will fix it, and it will all be a memory.

Cheers and best to you.

It's down for the flange and lug recall, I've no concerns regarding Nikons support. I'd been holding off suspecting there may be problems with the method I sourced it into Fiji, but the importer has been positive advising they will deal with everything.

Thanks for that info gwilliams. And to answer your question..."Any of your fav brands on the Winners list this year?" My R6 II did happen to garnish a win. I really couldn't care one way or the other, but it is a great little camera and it suits me and my needs. I've got the battery grip and a half dozen RF lenses and I'm a happy camper.

I agree. Now you know the camera better and I am sure your images fill you with satisfaction. Technology helps but it is still the photographer who makes the pictures.

Modern cameras have indeed computers inside them. The term computational photography is been used more and more often with the new features in cameras, like the Pro Capture and Live Composite in Olympus bodies. Perhaps you are waiting for Pentax to debut their new line of film cameras, old technology but real cameras after all.

Awards are meaningless. Results prove who the real winners are. And year in and year out the winners usually ends up being those with the best skill, experience, and knowledge of photography.
And, it will always be this way, no matter what camera brand a person uses.
I have shot most all camera brands, I find them all capable of producing fantastic results.
Below is an image of a Juvenile Red Shoulder Hawk taken with an out of date camera.

It funny how human beings like to categorize things as Best and Worst. There are thousands of lists like that online. Look at all the award shows on TV. It's the same with cameras. "Let's make up some categories for cameras and give them awards." It's all meaningless. I read reviews and comparisons, and I buy what suits me.

Good for Nikon Z8.
Of course it is the only high performance camera introduced this year.
Not ground breaking but just a Z9 light.
But they need some good news and it is overall a pretty good camera.
