Upgrade for what? Do you shoot primarily wildlife or sports? With a cropped 24MP sensor in the EOS 80D, are you still not close enough to your wildlife subjects that you can't crop into the image enough, and you'll do better with 32MP files?

Is it really a step-up? Have you really me exhausted one of Canon's best cropped DSLRs ever released?

Maybe the OP just wants a new life.

Forgive me, but for over a year a member has told us how mirrorless will change our lives and our entire outlook on life. Perhaps that advice is finally being heeded. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜³πŸ˜‡

A mirrorless camera will make you a better photographer, in fact, a better human. My point of the probing questions is to lead to the 'right' mirrorless camera, the candidate body that balances all the best features with the best price that best meets the individual's needs. The EOS R7 doesn't seem to meet this threshold for this community member, based on their stated needs and their current advanced EOS DSLR.

I got the R7 first of last December.
Had a 7D.
The R7 is an amazing camera and I thus far have no complaints.
I only have EF, FD, FL and R lenses, a couple fully manual non Canon lenses no RF lenses.
The EF lenses ALL work better than they did on the 7D.
The EF 100-400mm MII with the 2X MIII at 400mm has amazing AF and tracking of BIF etc. Yes, I like it and the 32.5 mp is second only to Fuji. Others only make 20 and 26 mp max.
Those additional mp allow for cropping that other cameras cannot do.
Go for it.

I got my R7 to obtain 2 main advantages, the improved focusing (eye focus) and the IBIS to minimize camera movement, both for better sharpness. I have not been disappointed.

Then there are additional benefits like seeing the exposure level while viewing either in the viewfinder or the back panel.

I own the R7 and R6. The eye focus, IBIS, and 30 FPS are game changers in number of keepers. The RF lenses outperform EF lenses in a large way... The EF to RF adapters will work flawlessly on your EF lenses.

MPB and KEH have trade in programs. Adorama also buys used equipment.

I use the camera for nature and BIF. Before getting the R7, I used a 7DMKII for about 6 years. Picked the R7 mirrorless for eye detect, greater frame rate and the same auto-focusing systems as the R3. Married it with the RF 100-500 (have used the RF adapter with the EF100-400 LII and that works great as well). Becoming more efficient with the menu system of the R7 versus the button system of the 7d Mk11. The most difficult transition has been with the electronic viewfinder (EV). For very quick reaction shots, like catching a Virginia Rail running across a boardwalk, the time delay with the EV going active and getting the camera to eye level means you'll lose 50% of the shots compared to an optical viewfinder of the 7D. Still learning how to tweak the auto-focus system with custom settings. Agree with all the positives and I'm brute forcing my way through any EV issues. Staying with the R7 and RF100-500 as my walk along camera system for nature and BIF.

I agree with you. The RF 100-400 is reason enough to buy a R7 or another R-body camera. I can't believe such an inexpensive and light lens can be so fantastic at autofocusing and tracking, and sharp. It even works with the RF TC1.4 and TC 2.0. The OP should go for it!

I like my r7 but I came from a full frame 6d mk i. I wanted the extra reach for wildlife. It works fine with my ef lenses. The eye focus is good but not perfect, it does miss occasional. The 30 frames per second is nice but it’s a lot of pictures to go through. Never had a 80d so can’t say it would be worth the upgrade.
