I'm thinking of getting a Canon R7 and would like people who own them to tell me how they like them good or bad. I currently have a Canon 80d and I think it would be a good step for me to get into the mirrorless ecosystem.
Thanks,

Hi,
I bought my R7 a couple of months ago and absolutely love it. The eye tracking feature for both people and animals is the most amazing and accurate focus feature, it never fails, not even at 30fps.
It's also much lighter with the RF lenses compared to my 5DIII and EFS lenses.
The EFS L lenses also work perfectly on the R7 with the adaptor.
It's your money but I really don't think you will regret the purchase.

Upgrade for what? Do you shoot primarily wildlife or sports? With a cropped 24MP sensor in the EOS 80D, are you still not close enough to your wildlife subjects that you can't crop into the image enough, and you'll do better with 32MP files?

Is it really a step-up? Have you really exhausted one of Canon's best cropped DSLRs ever released?

I've been using the R7 for about a year and love it. I moved over from a Nikon D600. The Canon is lighter and the mirrorless feature let's you see what your shooting.

First of all I love my 80d. I shoot scenery, wildlife occasional sports and whatever is interesting at the time.
I have heard that the eye focus and the focus in general is much better on the mirrorless Canons than on my model.
I thought the R7 would be a step up cropped version of what I have.
That's why I'm asking for people to tell me how they like their R7s

I feel mirrorless cameras are overall better. But, you're considering a sports / wildlife specific model, and paying a price premium for all the features of this model specific to these usage needs. You probably have better choices, including not giving up on the EOS 80D. It's your money to spend as you desire, but it's always sad to see someone succumb to GAS when other ideas are present, representing better and more thoughtful choices.

First of all I don't have GAS syndrome and I'm not ready to pull the trigger and purchase. I am investigating and looking towards the future. My 80d is also wildlife/sports oriented so it doesn't seem like much of a leap if I purchase the R7 in the future. I appreciate the input very much.

He just said he shoots wildlife and occasionally sports. And I’m guessing the R7 is at least as good as his 80D for other stuff. And a 25% increase in megapixels is fairly substantial. Especially for wildlife, where even when using long lenses there’s a need to crop.

I got my R7 to obtain 2 main advantages, the improved focusing (eye focus) and the IBIS to minimize camera movement, both for better sharpness. I have not been disappointed.

Then there are additional benefits like seeing the exposure level while viewing either in the viewfinder or the back panel.

I just returned from Alaska. Here are some images I took with the R7 using the R100-400mm lens.
