A short time ago I posted a photo of this bird demonstrating his/her curiosity of a butterfly and mentioned the show put on for me. Here is a shot of the bird's interest in something on the ground. Shot with a Sony A1, 600mm f/4 w/ 1.4x converter (840mm), 1/5000, ISO 3200. A slight crop, processed thru Topaz deNoise, and the background reduced approx 1/3 stop to slightly separate the bird from the background. Hope you enjoy!. Constructive comments always appreciated.

Nice Harrier, they are such cool birds. I want to get a male Harrier. But so far no luck! For constructive critique, I’m not a bird photographer expert, but my eye want a little more at the bottom where he is looking. Perhaps a bit darker background. But, the birds position and clean background are great! I appreciate constructive comments as well, it is how you learn and learn what people like. Feel free to check mine out and add comments that you think would help!

Great capture Nala. I really like tge composition of the bird and background.
I tend to crop, and I think this is about right.

Nice POV, nice story being told, good detail, good wing position. I agree with others comments about maybe reducing BG even another 1/3-2/3 stop. If possible (depending on crop you made) I would extend image at bottom. I agree with another post that my eye was drawn to whatever the bird is looking at-I caught myself looking for it also. Even if the object of his attention is not visible, it would be effective to at least give it some room.

Appreciate your comments. I like the suggestion of a little less crop to help show more direction of where the bird is looking, and I will try reducing the exposure a bit more to help highlight the bird a bit more. Thanks for your thoughts, I like getting suggestions on what people think of images, it helps a bunch. Have a great day.

Getting a harrier at all is really hard to do. I have seen quite a few but they are always fast and always moving in the other direction from me. This is a wonderful picture!

Male Harrier? Check out this series: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-777057-1.html. I believe this is the father of the juvenile shown here. Taken from the same vantage point earlier this summer.

Hi Frank, nice catch ! It does seem a bit soft to me .....I can only speak to my Elements 9 software - where I would do an auto levels adjustment and auto/sharpen. I would bring up the saturation and mid-tone contrast a bit also. I understand that later/newer softwares do not have these controls or at least not labeled as such ! - but that is one of the reasons why I do not use them. Then, I might crop a bit off the top......

I am still looking for my first Harrier shot 8-(
