OK, if drag and drop is not working for you...then, simply go to "Import" and select "Move" at the top. The primary function of Move and Add to alert LRC Catalogue of location. Use the right panel to tell it where.

I created a folder with 660 photos in it. It was inadvertantly created as a sub-folder. It, and the 660 photos are still in the host folder. I do not want that set-up, I want a separate folder in the cateloge with those 660 photos in it. The drag and drop technique does not work in this manner.
It works for some of us, so thus the confusion, but ok it doesn’t work on your system.

How about deleting the sub folder contained images and then deleting the empty sub folder, from Lightroom, and re-importing the images in the correct Lightroom location?

You can delete them from Lightroom, but not from disk, then reimport them.

There are many options better than that. Even moving them outside of Lightroom and using the find feature is better.

You might consider having an Adobe tech walk you through the process.

There are various different ways to do what he wants. Provided he hasn't edited the images, it fairly easy to delete and re-import them.

I have had problems moving the folder outside of lightroom when I had to go into the folder and re-connect every image. Maybe they improved that process since then I think they have a checkbook now called "find adjacent image" that should find all the images. But if for some reason it doesn't find all 660 images, then more time is needed.

If you delete and re-import, make sure you have the sidecar files so your edits will be imported.

If he has already done some editing then deleting and re-importing probably isn't the best idea.

This is all some much easier and less confusing using only Ps and no Lr on either a Windows or Mac computer. I accidently get files in "sub-folders" all the time for many reasons. It is easy with Windows to MOVE, COPY & PASTE, and then DELETE the now Empty Sub-Folder. Lr is all too picky.

As I pointed out at the bottom of the post, there are two ways to remove the subfolder. (I see that I did not specifically say that this removes the subfolder).

If you have already moved an image into the subfolder, you should move it somewhere else before deleting the subfolder.

You have to start over to create the folder you want.

You don't really need to start over in lrc. Just drag the folder to enter you want lrc will move the folder in lrc by changing the pointers and including the files. Simpler and faster. Just another way.

In my Windows 11 Lightroom Classic, I can drag and drop folders. So, click on and hold the new SUBfolder and drag it to where you want it.

You can rename the folder after moving it. If the photos are in another folder, go to the folder they are in, select small, them drag them to the correct folder.

Absolutely did NOT work! Try another guess?

Then you are not understanding it's, or we not you. What we are all saying will work. I'm in the hospital or we could talk by phone, and get you through it. Moving works,.

True, but it sounds like he only created the subject and the photos are in another folder.

If you do this, lrc losses the photo pointers and you have to find the photos on lrc to correct the pointers.
