From Adorama “ Keep shopping this popular item before it's gone for good” {about the Nikon Z8}. If I were interested in it, I wouldn’t be impressed by their implied threat. I would expect the Z8 to remain on the market as long as it remains ‘popular’.

Personally I would ignore it the first time it arrived and unsubscribe on the next one received. I have no interest in purchasing a mirrorless camera, very happy with my DSLR.

I use Pentax SLR and DSLR ……… but I have an interest in what is happening in the rest of the word.

This is a selling ploy. The idea is to get you to believe that at the near future there will be no chance to buy the item. You have two choices, either impulse buy or just ignore the sales pitch.

I assume that mostof the folks participating in this forum live in free countries where capitalism is part of the culture. People and companies want and need to sell their goods and services in order to be financially successful. Companies of every description are going to advertise in whatever media is appropriate for their product or service and is at th disposal.TV and radio commercials and all manner of pop-up ads, emails, and such are annoying but somebody's gotta pay for the TV programs and online forums and platforms we enjoy, so d we have to live with all of this unless YOU pay for exclusive or premium services. The commercial and add brig revenues to all the aforementioned programs and platforms include this one!

Photo equipment manufacturers, distributors, and retailers used to advertise in photography magazines, most tof which are gone and many people do not READ much anymore and live on the Internet. The junk mail doesn't end up in your actual mailbox that has been replaced, for the most part by Emails.

If you want to avoid these things, do not subscribe to any company's lists, reject cookies, and watch what you click on. If you "Google" anything about photography - get read for the algorithms to deluge you with photo ads!

As for robo-calls, and dodgy emails- just hang up or delete them, many are attempts at fraud.

Pressure tactics? "BUY NOW... one in a lifetime deal, reserve now..."!!! all unmitigated BS! I have been selling my services for just about my entire adult life and I have never resorted to pressure tactics. As a consumer, I do not react well to any kind of pressure selling. Y'allknwwhat gear is supposed to cost and can recognize a legitimate sale or good deal as opposed to a snow job. Y'all know who the reliable and honest dealers are.

Impulse buy? Yeah, I buy impulse items- at the supermarket- a candy bar or some gadget at the harder stor- 5 bucks is my limit- it's fun! An expensive camer or lens on an impulse? If I ever do that PLEASE cart me
off to the HOME!

As usual, you hit the mail on the head. I suspect many items such as radios, toys, cameras were a raging impulse buy. Now, after the pandemic, I believe that there will be more unsolicited advertisements just to get you to open your wallet.

Savvier people such as yourself are a lot more judging. That is a good feature.
