These scene's were taken a few miles east of the San Rafael Reef in south central Utah. The Reef images were taken at a distance of several miles and really don't illustrate the enormity of the Reef's upthrust. The San Rafael River continues south some thirty miles where it joins the Fremont River and Muddy Creek to form the Dirty Devil River. The Dirty Devil River then continues south approximately eighty miles to join the Colorado River as it is about to flow into Lake Powell near Hite's Marina. Whew! Originally intended to do two posts then decided what the hey!!

Off to Mirror Lake this morning...need to get away and cool off from this 100* weather!

Beautiful stuff, Jim. There is just something about the San Rafael Swell and Reef! I wish I had some photos to post. All of mine are medium format slide film. SOME DAY I'm going to get them digitized!
Love that little river that could too!

As green and as lush as I've ever seen the area...and all the lakes are full with both water and people!! We went up through Evanston (got Lotto tickets) and home through Kamas and Park City. Didn't get on the road til 10 am so a long day.

Many thanks Chief! Would love to see some of your photos from this area...digitizing is a laborious task, been there done that. Ours was a snowy winter project with a lot of failures from my time in the Navy...time, tide and fungus took care of them.

Your -70 photos give a pretty good idea of the size this reef is. Great photos.
