I am aware of the Nikonians, photographers who are fanatic about using and collecting Nikon equipment. I wonder whether there is a similar group for Canon.

No one ever created a great image while admiring their cameras on the shelf.

As always, you are correct Paul. The Nikonians I know are a community of practicing photographers actively using the latest equipment, like you, but also passionate about the historical development of the legendary brand. My question concerns the passionate aspect of Nikon history. After all, someone needs to preserve the equipment.

Remember, that for Canon, there was the Great Schism. Pre EOS was dropped and made incompatible in 1987. Everything EOS is upwardly compatible, even to mirrorless. And now, against all odds and expectations, all those dusty and forgotten FD / FL lenses are 'hot' again when adapted to mirrorless. There isn't this unending F-mount worship, in the Canon line-up, due to that 1987 Canon decision.

Canon made a business decision in '87, an event now going on half a century. One could say by the numbers since that Canon made a good decision.

And I thought ham radio hobbyists were the only ones like this!

Instead of Canon vs Nikon, it's Icom vs Yaesu.

Instead of DSLR vs Mirrorless vs cellphones, it's Transistors vs Tubes (yes, they still argue about this)

Instead of Auto vs Manual, it's SDR vs Conventional

Amen.

My brother and another attorney were just having this discussion about UHH and why it is showing signs of failing and growing long in the tooth headed to dinosaur status. It for exactly the reason that most of the commentary and posts come from a core group of old guys who rarely post any photos, are constantly badgering new posters, inciting negativity, either due to boredom or shear jealousy because they can no longer hold a camera, have lost their vision both physically or creatively, do nothing to promote photography other than to complain. And they are individuals who opt to remain hidden behind goofy screen names and remain anonymous. Most likely would never say the things they do to a person face to face (especially my brother and I), and have a distinct ability to fail at "keeping peace in the valley". It is one thing to be creative, or have critical thinking. It is another thing to be critical on others and a constant fault finder and crush creative thought processes.

A group of us wish the real owner/administrator of this website would take a long hard look at what's going on and modernize/update UHH to grow it into the jewel it once was. AI may very well be that opportunity. Never stop dreaming.

I don’t mind the title. My first Canon was the AE-1 and I love it. Call me brand loyal because all of my cameras are just that!

The invective found on this Web-site stoops to the juvenile level. This expression fouls the waters. The UHH staff may wish to consider sanctioning the individuals who practice invective as their mode of expression. This mode offers little or nothing to the field of photography.

Facts are Nikon is by far the oldest, Canon is second and all others are infants. But it should be what have you done for me lately?

Fact is, advertising aside, all are pretty much the same. Results are dominated by the system a few mm behind the viewfinder.
