Rec. league co-ed softball, my first sports shooting

After cracking a couple ribs last week. My left knee just kind of gave out while digging a ball from the grass and I tumbled down. Thankfully my arm was strong enough to get the batter trying to take 2nd on a single, kind of hit.
I sat out this week's game and tried my hand at sports photography.
I am wide open to any constructive thoughts and ideas to improve on these results. While I am pleased with most of these, I have always gotten great advice and pointers from my fellow UHH'ers.

Rob

All shot with an 80D and Canon 100-400mm shot at varying zooms, 1/1250th, f/7.1 and auto ISO. The field was in partial shade due to the late start 8:15pm PDT. With fading sunlight as the game progressed, I went down to f/5.0-5.6 and 1/640th. The stadium lights didn't fill very well until we were done playing.

Great action shots. The batter up missed the ball in the frame but the swing action was caught perfectly.
#2 looks so familiar the guy making a desperate play for the ball while hogging the play from the fielder who looks like she is waiting for the ball to come down directly into her glove.
Needless to say I don't play with his type anymore.

Oddly, #2 was actually hit to left center where he was playing. My angle for the shot makes it look, just like you said and I've known those kind of players too. In this case, the left fielder(female)who is lightning fast, had a perfect angle to backup in case he missed the flyball.
Thank you for the compliments on the swing captures. High speed continuous shutter makes those much easier to get the swing and ball in frame. The 80D in this mode gets 7 frames/second.

You did good Rob. You may want to get the catcher some protective gear or at least a good dental policy!

I know, right?! Thankfully, the pitches are very low velocity, but it wouldn't be a bad idea just the same!
Thanks for the compliments Don!
