For me, that's an absolute fact. The old man's nephew sent me a photo recently. Where Henry lived all those years is now a barren spot....no evidence he was ever there. I'm sure that eventuality was what motivated the old man to let the wood scavengers have what they took, giving Henry a chance to live on.
