I have been considering looking into a different insurance carrier. Now I know I will, and will be asking about theft from my vehicle. Their rates have gotten a little too high to suit me and this gives me a perfect reason to go shopping. Thanks!

Reguarding Saraphoto's disastores trip to the Galopodos Islands, what is a good insurance company here in the US ?

You can add a theft rider to your car insurance company. I have Liberty mutual and they require a sales receipt along with the model and serial number. Some things, like my 50D, were bought used in a private sale so I don't have a receipt. They would not cover it because of that. I am going to check and see if I can cover it on my home owners.

Good tip. But photographing the items on a copy of a National newspaper with a date showing is also a good idea. I photographed every item in my home, every shirt, tie and cup and saucer. Hung the clothes on a door and 6 months later had a fire started by a DELL LAPTOP and there was no problem with settling the claim. Just gave the adjuster a CD and no questions were asked.

That's interesting Jim,

My insurers only require some sort of evidence that I actually owned the stuff, which I do by photographing it against a painting or something else which can be identified as in my house. They seem to be happy with that.
Bearing in mind that my Manfrotto tripod was over 30 years old when it was stolen - Good luck with looking for the receipt for that!
Having said that, it did take them over 6 weeks to cough up when all my gear was stolen. Which I found unacceptable.
