Ran across this on a fishing outing. Over 6 feet long. Was amazing to watch how easily they can climb a tree.
Black snakes are good to have around unless you have chickens for the eggs.
In the late '30's we had a chicken yard with 20 hens and one rooster. Ever once in a while the hens would kick up a fuss and Mom would grab a garden hoe and run for the chicken yard.
She usually caught the snake before it got to something to wrap itself around and chopped it up between the egg bulges. Since the chickens wouldn't sit on those eggs those were used for food along with many others.
The black snakes are a constrictor type and after swallowing the eggs they would wrap themselves around something, usually a tree trunk and crush the eggs inside them..
A nice set. I hate snakes, though. I know, I know. I just can't help it.
Great find and a cool set

Wow. We have what are called black water snakes up here in Lake Eire territory. Not as big and I have never heard of one climbing a tree or harming anyone. I would be interested in any info anyone one has whether they are related.
Nice pictures .
