As we are ending our European trip, we're in Iceland and the weather is horrible the last two days. Its been cold (38 degrees), rain constant, wind (20+), heavy overcast almost down to the surface...but you just can't stay indoors. The Icelanders, including children, are out hiking and traveling anyway and just have to be dressed for it...

Thought I would post a few of the waterfalls we visited on this magnificent island. Iceland, where the North American plate meets the Eurasian plate creating very interesting geology. Add to that Iceland has numerous active volcanoes and geothermal activity.

Waterfalls are beautiful and numerous and here are a few. Oxarafoss is detailed in the photos. Gulfoss was believed to be formed at the end of the last age, around 5,000 years ago. Run-off from Iceland's second-largest glacier, Langjokull, flooded the landscape, creating the river Hvita that tumbles into the ravine and creates this magnificent waterfall. Since I was already soaked, I decided I didn't need to be perched over the Gullfoss waterfall precipice with the others in the photo...

Sorry about any water drops on the lens, its was almost impossible to photograph without some as it was wet, wet, wet... Viewed best in download. Well, back out again tomorrow to see more sights, rain or shine. Happy Memorial Day and bless ALL our military members for their sacrifices...Cheers all.

Thank you Carol, hope to get some respite from this rain and overcast, only two days left on the island...but we'll happily deal with it, these islanders do everyday...Cheers

Very nice set!! Good positive attitude about the usual Icelandic weather! I really enjoyed the info as well as, the way you shot the falls!
Perhaps the skies will cooperate before you have to leave...

We were there in December one year.
Amazing place.
The wind there can be brutal though.

Thank you, it was but wouldn’t have been as bad if that crazy wind would have laid down…
