What do we do when newer cameras have AI exposure choice?

I suspect it will either give you satisfying results that meet your requirements or it won't. There is no one size fits all for every situation. That's one of the joys of photography for me, having control over the final results

Didn't know Ayn Rand was a photographer?

Her photography skills had to be better than her philosophy skills.

Ah, yes. Insanity rules! Very often a great picture presents itself without the time to set everything "right." See my avatar for proof of this. My Canon was set on P.

A good photographer will choose the best mode depending on what is best for the situation. Sure, if there is no time to do manual setting, then go full auto. But in situations where the specific aperture or shutter speed are important to the photographers intent, and there is enough time, use manual, or one of the semi-auto modes. Using P at all times isn't the way to get great photos.

Doesn't P do the same as Auto?

It's not just the correct exposure that's the issue with full auto. The camera still doesn't know how much depth of field the photographer wants, or how high a shutter speed is necessary given how much the subject is moving.

Its a black cat in a coal bin in dim light.
You really have no options to exercise.

I kinda liked the discussion. Actually I only shoot raw when when I think I need the extra control and I usually set the parameters when I'm shooting around auto or semi auto. But in shooting auto, I like to think that I know what the camera is thinking.

P gives a little more control than full auto.

Give up your camera and take up knitting.

Just because the choice is offered, doesn’t mean you have to use it.
