Jarid Polin says he tested a pre-production Z8. Has a vid but only so much he can say.
There are several youtube videos on the Z8 ........what I see the 8 is cheaper but not by much than the 9.......they took some of the "fluff" away from the 9 to make the 8 the poor man's 9
I have been happily shooting a D850 for about 5 years. I could go on shooting a D850 indefinitely and be perfectly happy. There is nothing in my life that requires any sort of $6,000 camera ($7,000 with batteries and memory cards), nor any of the esoteric capabilities of the Z9. It would be nice to have a mirrorless equivalent of the D850, but since I already have two them which are already making me very happy, it is not worth any sort of a price premium to have one. And no...the Z7ii is nowhere close to filling that need.
So for me, I will be very interested in a Z8 if (actually, for you math folks, iff) it is priced somewhere between $3,000 and $3,400. I'll be adding a grip and memory cards and a second battery, which will push me up somewhere close to $4,000-$4,500. Questions around an adaptor or initial S lens will wait until it becomes apparent whether this is all real or just wishful thinking.
If the price turns out to be higher, there are a couple of possibilities. One is to simply wait until the price comes down or the camera goes on sale. As stated, I'm not in any sort of desperate situation here. And keep in mind...if the price has to be too high, there's nothing preventing Nikon from adjusting the price of the Z9 upward. They used to raise prices all the time. With a Z8 available as the volume product, the Z9 could easily be elevated to a premium tier position.

I prefer the R8.
And I've always preferred the V8!

Jerry instead of wasting your time on Z8 rumors, why don't you start a new threads with new rumors. Here are some suggestions in no particular order.
Nikon Z10 will hit shelves before Z8
Nikon buys Sony's chip business
Canon provides new Nikon mirrorless camera with every commercial Canon copy machine.
UHH will be sold to China and members posting in the wrong section will be banned for 3 months.
Ban all informational videos that provide incorrect information.
That should keep you busy for a while!

LOL,
After decades using Nikon as an amateur and as a pro, I still care about Nikon remaining viable and healthy. I was one of those who pushed back here in UHH when Nikon was listed for dead, and I predicted the Z9 would be a winner , and it is (with a Sony-made sensor, lol)
I still love Canon too ( a bit, LOL) and post about them too, Olympus, Fuji, Panasonic too. All these brands I have owed and used. I am not a one-trick pony. Rumors are fun to see how right or wrong they get it. Often times they get more right than wrong these days.
Cheers and best to you.

Fortunately, "Rumor Videos" get none of my attention. I move on to something real. It's the same with all rumors. People say things and post things online that seem hard to believe - because they aren't true.

You're being too idealistic. Members who mis-post will become organ donors.
Probably depends on what you shoot. I take mostly landscapes and the Z7ii fits my needs perfectly.
Those cameras are going to be way too big for me. I will be passing on them.

Nikon Rumors has a side by side comparison of features.
For the typical just for fun photography the Z8 would be my choice.

Just the additional battery life on the Z9 is enough reason to stick with it, unless the Z8 is significantly less expensive. The specs for the Z8 that have been posted show that the battery does not have enough life to complete a normal high school sports event.
The battery life on the Z9 also is much better than the number of shots that they rate it for. It will actually do close to 3,000 under some conditions.

My first three Nikon DSLR's had the big batteries. My D850 and D500 can take the big batteries in the optional grip. The beauty of this is having the option to lighten the load when desired. My D7200 will take a grip with AA batteries. I usually use that camera with no grip and light weight camera.

I agree. The weight savings alone...

I can't understand why Nikon would offer a similar camera with lower battery capacity.

From the D1 on up, the professional Nikons took a large battery. Most of the others took an optional accessory grip that can take the larger battery and includes additional features. Nothing new in that respect.
The D850 and D500 for example require the optional grip to fit the higher capacity battery. It's a nice option when it is more important to go light. The standard battery is small enough and cheap enough to keep a spare or two in your pocket.

My D750 is rated to shoot 1,230 (EN-EL15c), although I've never taken that many in a single session - and never will.
Z8 - 275 shots (CFexpress Type B, EN-EL15c) Z9 - 700 shots (CFexpress Type B, EN- EL18d) Pretty pathetic.
