FWIW - I shoot full frame with a 100-400 lens from dead center. About 200' maximum distance to home plate. Then crop as/if needed. Just because I have also become a fan of a little bit of sharpening, I will sometimes do that. I figure when I can read the manufacturer's name on a glove or a tattoo on the moving arm of a batter, it is working pretty good!

I've seen the quality of your shots and have no doubt you would nail some good ones from CF. I tried it just because I was curious as to what I could actually get. Maybe something to try on those "off" non competitive days.

I just got an email from SportsPhotos.com an endurance sports photography company. She wants me to shoot their Olathe Garmin Marathon on Saturday. Garmin is a big company. $125.00 for the first 2 hours and $50.00/hour for any additional shooting. They want photos sent ftp whatever the hell that is. Will have to figure that out. They don't want any post work done Sabrina said they will take care of that. I don't think I keep the rights though. Have never shot where I don't keep rights before. Told her I would contact her in the morning. I think I will probably do it. They have other Marathons coming up around here. Might lead to a bunch more shoots. YEA!! Thanks BE SAFE!!

Get the first shoot spot on and others will follow. These people want quality above all else. Do not rely on Topaz to make a average shot a great shot.
Good luck and shoot tight

Going to contact her this morning and get a feel for what they are looking for etc. See what happens. Thanks for the advice and I will get it. I did look at some photos of their other events and I was not really impressed with them. Some were tight some heads chopped etc. Oh well. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Hi friend. I really screwed this shoot up. Short story, Was freezing cold with wind blowing right at me. Had chair set up but was too cold for me. I pulled my car at the right position to get runners coming across bridge like they wanted and shot sitting in passenger seat. I left my car running the whole time to get at least a little warmth. Now, being a diabetic the cold makes my neuropathy in my hands and feet worse. So I put my gloves on ( after thinking about it now they were way too thick to be using. They wanted me to use back button focus which I do anyway and shoot all photos vertical. Well I think that was the real problem with all the out of focus shots and there were a ton. The gloves just didn't do well with pushing button. They also wanted me to shoot a lot of photos (4000-7000). NEVER have I shot that many. It was tough anyway with so many coming across the bridge. I have to get with a guy to figure out how to send photos to them. Talked to my contact with them and she said to go ahead and send them and they would have a look. I ended up with 4412 photos. I couldn't do anything with the photos absolutely NO POST WORK AT ALL. Will contact the guy to send photos today and see what happens. I am SO Bummed out especially for the runners. My contact said she thought they would have over 3000 runners. I think they definately did. I was set up right after the start line so they all came by my location probably 4-5 minutes after start. I then would photo them coming across the bridge on the way back in which was maybe a mile from finish. Sorry for the rant. Well, will see if they will pay me anything now for the 6 hours I was there. Well there it is. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Sorry to hear about this Tom with the poor/cold weather conditions and your diabetes making things tougher! Only send them your best photos even it is 2000 photos because this speaks volumes of your photography even in the conditions you had to take the pictures in.

I would have requested or added in a contract 50% of your payment up-front (pre-payment) and receive the final 50% payment plus extra time on the delivery of the pictures. At least you get 50% if you feel you're not going to receive anything!

For cold weather shooting, and I shoot with gloves with my Canon gear, I modified my gloves where my thumb and forefinger can go thru the glove (cut openings into the glove) where I can physically touch the buttons. Lately I have been double gloving it by wearing a thin sports glove, like a runners glove, where I can push camera buttons underneath a heavier glove that has the thumb/forefinger cuts in the material, this way my 2 fingers are not in the cold weather.

Hopefully all this will work out in the end,
Rick

Hi friend. I have to send all photos to them. I can't do anything to any of them, good or bad. They want them all and they will do whatever to them. They have to see photos and time I was shooting before they pay anything, and depending on how many good ones they end up with that is how I will get paid. Was supposed to be $125.00 2/hrs and $50.00 each additional hour. Will see what happens. Going to get a pair of gloves and do the finger thing. Hoping I don't have any cold weather shoots any time soon. I am going out to shoot JV Softball game this afternoon 60 deg. Not TOO bad.

Tom,

Totally understand Tom! but since you are not giving them memory cards from your camera, I would at least delete the blurry ones, just my 2-cents.

I am so sorry to hear about this. If it makes you feel any better I had a shoot last year that went ok but not great. Sometimes it's the pressure of the job, doing homework, etc. Did you go to the location days before the event to scope out shooting areas? Just a thought.
Then you have the weather, it's terrible the cold and wind. I don't know how you stayed all those hours. My hat is off to you. Let's just say life is a learning experience.
Again be good to yourself and feel good mentally and health wise.
