Hello

1. What is the name of your wifi network SSID
2. Does your network SSID show up anymore
3. You mention that you turned off everything
4. At this time does your wifi come up at all
5. I think it would help to establish that first

Alvin

That is on Windows 11. I just checked on my Wife's Windows 10 computer. If you search for "Find and Fix Network Problems" in the search box on the left of the task bar, Windows 10 will walk you through fixing network connection issues.

I have a link that says: Network Troubleshooter which I've run enumerable times and it keeps telling me there is no problem.

No, I don't have anything that looks like the picture you have of your wife's network. Mine is black background with a box for Airplane Mode that is greyed out and it says Network and under that it says Connected. I've tried left clicking on that to try and bring up something else and..........nothing.

Try unplugging the ethernet cable and then use the built-in troubleshooter.

To everyone:
Well, I bit the bullet and called Verizon. It seems this computer does NOT have WiFi! Apparently that is why I could find my Verizon Network name. When I set it up I just hooked up the ethernet cable that was on the old computer, that was WiFi capable as I'd used it for years without hooking it up to the router, but with the newest Verizon 'update' they boosted the Wifi router from the utility room with the Verizon extender which they plugged into my computer. Anyway, once that was established and that I wasn't running on someone else's internet service, it still didn't explain why hyperlinks wouldn't work, webpages wouldn't open or they'd half open and then I'd have to hit refresh and if I was lucky they'd open all the way. Some websites wouldn't load because they said I wasn't internet connected when the Internet Icon told me I was. While they were still trying to resolve those problems, the call was disconnected and I haven't heard back since. I was told that Xfinity wants you to either buy or rent their own routers. Does anyone with Xfinity know if they specify their own brand of router? I'd hate to buy another one after paying around $300 for the Verizon router. Life was so much simpler before computers. If you wanted to know something you hauled your hinny to the library and exercised your brain finding out where to look. Thank you all for being so patient in trying to walk me through this mess.

It is not showing wifi because you are connected with an ethernet cable to the extender. If you no longer have a wifi router, you will not be able to connect wirelessly with wifi. Not sure what else to suggest other than calling Verizon. Perhaps someone else has an idea.

Not so. Even with an ethernet cable connected and operating, the Wi-Fi symbol will show on the taskbar when a Wi-Fi connection is available.

To the OP: Windows doesn't require a login and password to connect to a router, but a router may require it.

You can click the network settings icon in the taskbar (on the right, next to the volume icon) and select "Network and Internet settings." From there, select "change adapter options" to see what your PC is trying to do. You can right-click to disable and enable your network connector options.

I just installed a wireless Internet 6 adapter, but I left my ethernet cable attached. I cannot use both at once, but they're both connected and I can easily swap them with a few mouse clicks. Just last night I did this when my connection seemed sluggish, so I did speed tests on both to try and isolate the problem.

Recently my faithful 10 yr. old Lenovo crashed & I had to set up a new Win 10. Worst computer experience I've had since I bought my first computer in 1994. Win 10 is no where near as user friendly as Win 7, that said I'm having problems with it on the internet. It doesn't respond well to connecting when hyperlinks are clicked on, loads as slow as if I was on a phone modem (remember those days?), and it suddenly dawned on me that it connected with the internet without my input of the Verizon password and ID needed?????? With my previous computer running Win 7, connections were lightening fast. I've tried using the Edge browser instead of the Firefox that I've used forever, and it doesn't make any difference. I'm wondering if this computer connected itself to someone else's internet service as I live in a building with 7 other units. How can I get it to connect to my own Verizon service. I've checked the internet window under Settings and can't find anywhere that allows you to sign in to an internet service. Any other computer that I've used here won't connect without the ID and password. Any of you out there have the solution? I'd call Verizon, HOWEVER, dealing with that company is an exercise in frustration as their automated phone service just sends you in circles.

Just wait until you go to Windows 11. Windows 10 is a piece of cake!

Oh, please, don't tell me that. I am in the process of updating my laptop Lenovo Win 10, that hadn't been online in a couple of years and Microsoft is telling me that my version of Win 10 has reached its end of service and they no longer have updates for it!!!!! I wanted to get the laptop up and running to see if I was getting the same hyperlink and webpage loading problems I've been getting with the new Lenovo destop, but I haven't wanted to do anything until I have all my updates and a new version of Norton installed. Windows 7 had so much more and more user friendly than Win 10. I was always under the impression that each new version of something was supposed to mean it was improvements and not giving us paying more for less. Too bad another OS didn't come out that would give Microsoft and Apple a run for their money.

Since ". . . It seems this computer does NOT have WiFi! . . . " perhaps a WiFi dongle would resolve your issues? A quick search on Amazon yielded "1-16 of 728 results for "wifi dongle"" to choose among. Good luck!

I am going to do that as the old desktop had wifi AND it was plugged into the ethernet wifi extender. It was very fast. I've speed tested this new Lenovo and it does well, however, it just doesn't seem to want to open hyperlinks consistently, nor webpages that I've never had a problem with in any other computer. If, when I get to testing my old laptop against this new desktop to see if the laptop loads quickly on hyperlinks and webpages, then I can only assume that the problem is within the Operating System and not with the internet provider.

May I suggest shut down the wifi connection. Then start it up again and it should present you with a list of connections available to you. Then just select the one you want

Sounds like a DNS problem! -- (And Windows 10 still is being supported by Microsoft, and is the best OS available, by far!!!)

Just to up date you. I bought a $23 WiFi dongle from Amazon, disconnected the ethernet, plugged in the dongle and driver and it was off to the races! It now loads the internet webpages instantly, no more dead hyperlinks or buffering on youtube. Hard to believe that the direct ethernet hookup did not work as well as the Wifi as usually a direct hookup is faster and more reliable. Weird, just plain weird. I did lose my sound when I hooked up my second monitor, but found the fix for that in Settings. Apparently the sound needed a driver update. I can only guess that the Wifi extender that Verizon hooked up to my old computer has something wrong with it, but I wouldn't have known as the old computer had WiFi. Glad it didn't cost me anything or I'd really be ticked. Thank you all for your interest and help.
