Are you able to get T-Mobile 5G in your area? They charge a flat $50 a month for their 5G internet and include Netflix in that and it will never increase in Price.

When I cut the cable during Covid, I bought my own equipment.
In NY, Optimum wouldn’t sell me a new modem so I had to buy a used one. That’s all I could get. I think I paid around $100 on eBay.
Here in Florida, I bought a combo modem/router outright from XFinity/Comcast. I used to hate them but somehow they’re treating me better than Optimum. When I go back to NY it costs me $8/month and I can still get limited service. I’m told to keep it plugged in for updates.
I’m usually in Florida for 3 months so I don’t touch my Optimum service. When I did, they always changed my plan when I reconnected and it was never in my favor.

I suspect that the other charges could be the Broadcast TV surcharge, but how do you get Spectrum internet for $10?

As I suggested, the numbers are a scam. They raised the price to $203, and someone broke the charges down to add up to that. It doesn't matter how they list the charges.

I'm afraid that when I call to drop phone and TV, my bill will drop by just $20. They are the only game in town, so they can do whatever they want.

Call them and ask what they will do for you and what the costs will be instead of just guessing and complaining about something that you have not checked out. And you do have options, you can get Dish TV, put up an antenna, check to see if there are other wireless providers in your area. Never a good idea to just be so negative. Good luck.

Since I'm redoing the network wiring and eliminating the phone modem, I thought it might be time to get a new modem. The one I have must be at least thirty years old - from Time-Warner. It's an Arris SB6121 (discontinued). Since I don't have superfast Internet here, I don't need a $300 modem. There are some top-rated ones in the $50 range - Arris and Motorola.

Looking at my Spectrum bill, I don't see a rental charge for the modem. The billing looks awfully suspicious, though. I'm paying $150 for the three services, yet they are charging me an extra $40.90.

Bundled services - $149.99
Spectrum TV $6.00
Spectrum Internet $10.00
Other charges $24.90
Taxes $12.10

Comments and suggestions gladly accepted.

Wow, what is your internet speed Jerry? Your bill is so high because of that bundle, too many tv channels. Do you really watch all of them?

If you drop those two items, what is left will cost you more!

I have no choice with the TV. I have the "Bundle," which is phone, computer, and TV. I've added nothing to the TV line-up, but I can't delete anything. My Internet speed isn't great, download is in the 200 range, maybe. I posted it a while ago. My new modem arrives today.

That's what I'm afraid of, and YouTube TV will cost me about $73/mo.

I tried Dish years ago, and reception was iffy. Rain, snow, clouds, fog - everything interfered with it. I had one dish and two receivers. The nearby trees were close to blocking the signal, but they're much taller now.

Odd thing about DishTV. No one else can use the equipment once you register it. I couldn't sell it or give it away, so it went to the dump. Ridiculous? Definitely!

When I get YouTube TV established, I'll call Spectrum and disconnect. I know what it's like to talk to those people, so the fewer calls I have to make, the better.

if you decide not to be involved in your own life and circumstances, then you get exactly what you deserve! Snow, fog rain don't interfere with the cable reception with the exception of the local, off-air channels, don't accept any lame excuses from the technicians who come to your home, contact the system manager. Of course, you cannot change the packages of channels, and the cable company told you that right up front, but they do provide you with a channel lineup, and they do break (itemize) your bill so that you are able to break down what you are paying for, TV, Internet, equipment(internet modems & cable boxes), franchise fees, taxes& etc. Plus they do provide an online channel guide.
Bottom line, if you don't like the service, then by all means, disconnect the service and quit stressing and complaining, it's not worth it!

It may not be that simple. If you want access to internet, then often Spectrum is the only available or decent service. Spectrum’s pricing is very opaque. If I go online and try to compare internet only vs internet + VOIP, there’s no straight answer, and calling and negotiating only works for awhile - as soon as the “intro” offer is up, the price is back to astronomical levels plus constant increases. Been a Spectrum customer for 40+ years, so I know the drill. Unfortunately, if you live among trees, satellite service is problematical, so you’re stuck with whoever will run a cable or Fibre to your house, at least until 5G is accessible to everyone. Google Fibre (which is a great answer) is just a few blocks away, but neither Google or AT&T is willing to run Fibre up my 500’ driveway, so I completely understand Jerry’s problem.

It is that simple, I have Spectrum and have had it for a bit longer than you. The slowest speed is 300 MBS and you can go up from there if you want to pay more $$. The Company will provide you with a list of services & cost, and a channel lineup. Right now they offer a special on wireless phone service, 2nd line for $29.99/mo. it is special and will increase when the special is no longer available, but they do tell you when the special expires, so you know that going in. I live in a small town in Montana, there is a company that offers wireless internet in my state, there must be something of that sort in NY. Regardless the cost/prices are what they are, so deal with it.

And in the 40+ years you say you’ve had Spectrum (and it wasn’t Spectrum in NC until about 10 years ago), have you never experienced a price increase without previous warning? If you say you haven’t, you’re living in a different universe. So what was your Spectrum bill 10 years ago, and what is it today? And let’s see you provide a PUBLISHED cost for Internet only (not an intro price) and the same published price including VOIP (again, not an intro). BTW, Spectrum was founded in 1993.

I apologize for anything I may have said to upset you, I should have known better. Seems as though some people just like to complain and that's their prerogative, I was just trying to bring some logic to the conversation and you apparently needed to complain or was it more like gossip? I didn't take into account that you feel like you feel and that's okay, I'll try not to get in the middle of what you apparently need to say and I will try to stay out of these kinds of conversations.
