As for your sunrise photo. It does look like it was shot through a dirty window. There are several areas that are murky and dull. The left hand side is either covered in dust or there’s an awful lot of noise. SOOC doesn’t mean anything. It’s still over saturated so there is banding in the sky. And there is nothing about that photo that is evidence of any knowledge of either photography or astronomy. As a matter of fact it wouldn’t take much photography knowledge to shoot that horizontal without losing part of it. And normal common sense would make you at least rotate it before posting.

This I do not understand, "It does look like it was shot through a dirty window. There are several areas that are murky and dull."

Several years ago there was a major Exabition with a published book Titled 'Rear Window' and a second title 'Dirty Windows', it was a voyeuristic presentation of a view from another adjacent building, viewing in through the building next door's dirty window. It was a rather brilliant idea in the tradition of a voyeur's view of another world in through a window. I found the posted image to be much in this style.

This post speaks to the great tradition of windows and mirrors that have a long history in the arts. Not all windows, nor curtains, or uneven light speaks to visionary use of illuminating ideas about windows and obstructed windows. Much of the major body of artists like Marcel Duchamp speak to the idea as and notions of ones ability to "see" and a lack of the other major sense hearing. Thus one is reminded of Duchamps much quoted principle that "You can see seeing, you can't hear hearing".

It is sometimes important to open one's self to the notion that a technically unsophisticated image perhaps what the photographer intended. It is where one may find inspiration for new set of eyes as a way of see new undiscovered views that will inspire a path not often taken.

I stated this some time back, early on in this 'discussion', when I posted that I was vary much delighted by the posters image. It struck me as quite creative and original.

I’m 100% sure that look was not his intent. And certainly not a good choice if his intent was to display his photography and astronomy acumen.

I prefer to take an image at face value and not try to read other notions into the work. He may call himself by a name associated with autonomy, that does not make him an astronomer, but because the image posted was made using photography and this is a location where photographers post their images of their photography, I accept it at face value as a photographic image.

I have seen the film, I am pretty sure the artist who made the images for the Exabition "Dirty Windows" was aware of this film and other such images and films. All hark to the notion of voyeurism.

But I think the choice of calling the Exabition "Dirty Windows" encouraged the idea of a type of voyeurism that was somehow 'soiled', not necessarily because the windows the artist was shoot from or into where necessarily not clean. I think you get the drift of the idea.

Guess you didn't read read my post. It's a photograph of my photograph from my cell phone because I didn't have access to my file. I don't do much with cell phone pic so didn't know you could rotate it. For trying to get a timely responce I posted as is.
If you bothered to look down the thread you would see when time allowed I rotated and slightly cropped it.
No knowledge of astronomy or photography?
Photo was taken outside, no dirty window. Why isn't that an astronomical shot?
It's right out of the camera jpeg.
Shown it at MANY ASTRONOMY FUNCTIONS and all gave rave reviews. The fact you don't know what you're looking at, due to your lack of astronomy knowledge, tells a lot. You really shouldn't critique photos that you know nothing about.
It's a JPEG right from camera with an actual representation of the sunrise over the ocean, banding in the sky are things called CLOUDS, please Google clouds so you know they produce rain and are commonly found on the morning due to temperature differences of air and sea.
If you need more info let me or USER ID know. He has all the answers too.
A few post later is rotated photo I'll repost.

You can rotate the phone to horizontal (landscape) or vertical (portrait) before clicking the shutter.

I did that's why the early posting was rotated 90 degrees. Why are you having trouble understanding I took a photo of my 11 x 14 with the cell rotated 90 degrees and I posted it rotated as I took it.
Later I rotated the cell image to get it the right way. Horizon being on the horizon.
Photo is a sun rise over the ocean as such it was still dark

If you rotate the phone, as I did, the photo on my phone is rotated from the original. Look at the repost as you and USER ID are having real issues understanding what this sunrise is.

You’re a joke. I read your post and I didn’t say it wasn’t an astronomical shot. Now I suppose that technically sunrise shots are astronomical though they’re generally not considered “astronomical photography”. This appears to be more than just a sunrise. It appears to be a partial eclipse so I’ll concede that it’s an astronomical shot. I never questioned that. I merely said that there is nothing about it that indicates any real knowledge of either astronomy or photography. Anybody could have seen that and pointed a camera at it. Now maybe people have been wowed by it at “astronomy functions”, but as a photograph I stand by my earlier assertions. There are areas that are murky and blurry with dull colors and the entire left side appears to be either dirty or extremely dirty. As for the sky, yes there are clouds. I know what clouds are. There is also banding. You apparently don’t know what banding is.

Gordito has his problems. Your simple explanations are waaaaaay above his pay grade. Youre nevvvvuh gonna lead him to even an inkling of comprehension, but you persist in trying. You certainly earn an "A" for persistence ... but you (or anyone who tries) are doomed to an "F" for results. He dwells in a realm of early adolescent fantasies. You can keep on knocking but theres just nobody home :-(

The problem is that what you suggest doesnt work properly when the phone is pointed straight downward as in copying a document or a photo. Gordito failed to establish his desired orientation BEFORE pointing the phone straight downward.

When pointed straight downward the gravity sensor cant tell vertical from horizontal orientation (cuz theres no longer any difference).
