Vinyl & CD user, tried Amazon Music : way to compressed! I guess to change to smaller format no dynamic range, almost like Muzak
Tried Opera and Classical, no complete operas just arias but all ruined by compression.
How are other streaming services?
Will dust off my Heathkit expander but probably beyond repair.
CDs are supposed to be capable of great dynamic range, in truth quite a few are just reissues of vinyl or tape editions with limited dynamic range

You must have only used the music package included with Amazon Prime. They have another service called Unlimited. It is great IMHO. It streams CD quality and HiRes up to 24/192. I use their streaming box, I think it's called Echo Link. Has a built in DAC, so you can hook straight to a preamp or integrated amp and subwoofer.
As for cds, search the Steve Hoffman forum on the web. There you can search and find the best sounding cds according to forum members. That ay you can bypass all the compressed crap from the 90s and 2000s.

There are two things going on. CD sales are declining, and record sales are increasing. Computers and cars no longer have a way to play CDs, so why buy them? I'm looking forward to my next computer and car. Each will have a way to play LP records.

I can vaguely remember from my youth (the 50's) 45rpm record players for cars.
