I went to the local zoo on March 7 with only my 500mm lens. All I could take were close-ups. It was a different experience that I will probably not do again because of how it limits you.

Yes a photographic waste of time, for the most part the people are more interesting to photograph.

Actually, people are much less interesting to me as a subject. Especially strangers who might fight you

Last time I visited the Tampa Zoo, I used a Nikkor 70-200 (f2.8) and found it just right for the challenge.

I totally agree agree with you, I'll take animals any day of the week over people as interesting subjects to photograph! You did quite well with the only lens you brought that day.
