In this second set of images taken from the Lugard Road scenic path on "The Peak" we experience the waning of the day without any spectacular sunset, but with interesting facets nevertheless. These photos were taken from 4:41 - 5:31 pm as the sun was setting. Some of these images will be somewhat hazy due to the direction of the shooting towards the sun. We are starting out looking over much of the western harbor with the hilly contours of Lantau Island and the western New Territories faintly visibly in the haze accentuated by the setting sun. Throughout the set we will see details of the bridges and buildings including some "glaring moments" when the setting sun reflects on the glass facades of the buildings, seemingly setting them afire. As usual, I will append further information on the individual shots in the captions below. The location of some of the structures described are indicated in the second, detailed map of Hong Kong Harbour.

A few notes about the STONECUTTERS BRIDGE - This high level cable-stayed bridge spans the Rambler Channel, connecting Tsing Yi to Stonecutters Island. The bridge deck was opened to traffic in December 2009. The bridge was the second-longest cable-stayed span in the world at the time of its completion. The bridge spans 1.6 km (1 mi), with 3 lanes in each direction. It has two bridge towers, one on Tsing Yi Island and the other on Stonecutters Island. With a main span of 1,018 m (3,340 ft), Stonecutters Bridge has the third-longest cable-stayed span in the world. The Stonecutters Bridge won the 2010 Supreme Award at the annual Structural Awards presented by the Institution of Structural Engineers, United Kingdom.

Great set, Joe. It's too crowded a place for me, though.

Thank you Barbara, I see you like the "hazy mood ambience" with nature rather than the "concrete jungle" and I can sympathize with you - to me they are both quite interesting. Thanks for looking and commenting.

Thank you Ken for your appreciate words. If you have "crowdophobia", then Hong Kong is not really the place for you, and while I don't mind then crowds of a normal living environment like here in Hong Kong, I do not like the excessive crowds at sporting or entertainment events and thus shy away from those. Here in Hong Kong, crowds are natural, and I am ok with them, but actually prefer the solitude that Hong Kong also possesses and therefore concentrated many of my images in this series on the out-of-the-way places. Thanks again for looking, Ken!

Thanks Mike, yup, from that point on the hill, you get great "overviews" of the essence of Hong Kong - glad to hear you liked them.

These are super images Joe! I like that you got a few images with that tower being illuminated by the setting sun. It's a great sequence! I really enjoyed the whole set looking out over HK!!

Thanks Rob, glad to hear that you enjoyed these photos. That momentary glare on the ICC tower and its shifting moods fascinated me also. At one point it was totally glaring white (#7), then it got a subdued glow (#8) and then that muted but now the neighboring structure was afire in red (#9) - amazing how these things change and I was definitely lucky to be there at that time and to notice these changes. This walk around the hill (about one hour) and the lookout portion towards the end are one of the highlights of a Hong Kong visit.

These are really neat photos. I can’t imagine all those tall buildings. I like the sun bouncing off the 8th and 9th shots. Also the Westpoint building with the ball on top is really different.
