My Expensive Epson printer died due to leaking ink on the photo papers so I have various Epson papers left. I recently bought the Canon Pro 200 printer. I compared the Epson paper using the Canon profile with the same type of Canon paper using the Canon profile and could not tell the difference! How important is various paper profiles when printing Hoggs?

Interesting question.
(I don't use paper profiles, other than telling the print driver if it's glossy or what.)

I like to print Very high quality prints and wondering if particular paper profiles for selected printers Really matter. So far No difference

That's why I don't worry about it.
The "viewer" won't know if it was "perfectly matched" to the paper or not unless they have something to compare with. To them it will simply be a print. They might even like the "miss-match" more...
Only the photographer knows for sure, and might be the only one who cares.
And that is up to the photographer's visual perception characteristics and interpretation.

Not real important; I used up all my left-over Canon paper with my Epson ET-8500.
No problem.

Not real important; I used up all my left-over Canon paper with my new Epson printer. No problem.

I stick to Epson papers for my Epson printers. I have had very bad results with both printing and feeding (with ADF) with other brands.

I was gifted a box of Epson 13x19, and I have a Canon printer. I LIKE the prints I'm getting. When the first one came off the printer, I was wowed! Now, it's sort of my go-to paper.

Are you asking so you can use your Epson papers in the Canon 200? Assuming so, use what is closest like Glossy, semi gloss, Luster, Matte, etc. If you have a real lot of Epson paper, you could purchase a Calibrate i1Studio Datacolor SpyderPRINT & make your own profiles.

Icc printer paper profiles are CRTICAL in making prints with accurate color and quality. A read of the Red River Paper (my brand) site will provide MUCH valuable information. Best of luck.

Critical when the photographer wants it absitively posilutely "perfect".

"I know it's perfect because the profile says it is...".

For the one print we purchased, I have no idea if the photographer used special paper, matched ICC profiles, used a $3,000 printer or just used Walmart. I don't really care, as we liked the print.....

At one time, I had an Epson 2200 printer. If I didn't use Epson brand paper the paper feed system would leave "track marks" on the print, which ruined it.

Now I have a Canon Pixma Pro 200. It seems to work perfectly with all brands of photo paper.

You didn't say the model of your dead Epson printer. I assume it used dye ink. If the ink color pallet of your Epson was the same as the Canon Pro 200 it's not totally surprising you got prints you couldn't differentiate. I'm assuming you didn't print a "standard image" with each printer to do the comparison. In order to determine the capability of your printer you need to print a "standard image" which includes black, white and color gradiations. That way you can determine which icc profile will get you the best accurate color neutral prints for a specific paper using specific ink with a specific printer. If you are wondering about the "standard image" I mention you can download the file from a tab on JToolman facebook group (or watch tons of how to or comparison videos). Whenever I try a new paper I make prints of the standard image using different icc profiles to find which gives the best results.

All printer manufacturers provide icc profiles within their drivers which are produced for that specific printer model using OEM ink for their own different paper types. By selecting paper type in the printer panel you select the corresponding Mfg icc profile. There can be some mfg tolerances within the lot of the same model printer. Some "purists" obtain custom icc profiles for their specific printer using their paper and ink choice. These can be purchased or prepared using rather expensive colorimetric hardware. You can also download free icc profiles from paper and ink suppliers and experiment to find the best match.
