I got a paper bill from Spectrum, which is odd. The bill has risen to over $203. I'm calling tomorrow to cancel the TV portion. I'm going to try YouTube TV. I wonder how long it will take me to cancel tomorrow. If they're anything like XM Radio, I'll have to make lunch. : )

They keep raising and raising the price, with no increase in service.

I’m pretty sure it’s the same with most of these subscription services. They have a script they must follow. I hope you like YouTube TV. It works for us.

Water bills go up, no increase in service.
Electricity bills go up, no increase in service.
Gas bills go up, no increase in service.
Trash collection bills go up, no increase in service.
Sewer bills go up, no increase in service.
Phone bills go up, no increase in service?
Grocery bills go up, no increase in service.
Not much that would increase service I imagine.

But some things are under my control.

This isn’t unique to Spectrum, Jerry. Though not a snail mail letter, Comcast surprised me a few days ago with an increase from $201 to $214 effective mid February. All but $3 was fee increases that are being passed to me. Short of completely cutting the chord, the typical consumer is left with few choices particularly if you’re a heavy TV consumer. That $65/mon YouTube TV will now be a data consumer that may surprise you by pushing you into a higher level. With Comcast, even tho I’m ‘unlimited,’ there’s still a 1.2 tb cap. True unlimited adds $15-$25 more a month. Add something like HBO Max and we get depressingly close to the single check we’re handing our provider each month. When I received the surprise increase notice, I called Comcast to investigate options. My current ‘contract’ expires in Aug when a $25 discount disappears. She offered a couple options that looked a little better, but would require a superseding contract for 2 years. She also mentioned that sometime late this summer or early fall will be going to a different pricing structure that’s closer to an a la carte structure. My guess is that the bottom line won’t change much. Our town is currently install a municipal fiber optic system that they claim will be a less expensive alternative. We’ll see….

Yup, one can simply use less to keep the price down.
To a point...

The more one views stuff on cable, the more one's cost per view goes down.
I suppose it depends on how one looks at it.

I am using less. I drove my car 6,041 miles last year, so the price of gas (at 43 mpg) hardly matters to me. Our house is in the lower 10% of electricity users. I'm a cheapskate who saves money so I can throw it away on cameras, computers, and ukuleles.

They are trying to make as much money as possible before they become obsolete.

Both my Internet Bill (for Internet & voice,) and Cell Service (Verizon) do strange things. Every month they rise by pennies. Occasionally, they go down by a few cents, but mostly, they go up. This is mostly from Optimum. I’m sure they’re getting even with me for dropping cable TV but it’s still better and cheaper than their service.
I’m sure you’ll be happy with YouTube TV. There is a small learning curve but once you get used to it, you’ll see what I mean. I’d like to cancel the voice part of the bill but my wife won’t let me.
There’s a deal right now; I think it’s $40 or $45 if someone (like me) or a friend recommends you. Both of the parties get that amount off their bill I think on the first or second bill.

If you do get YT TV, feel free to ask any questions here or via PM.

I clicked to sign up, and it was giving me two days for free. I left that and went to the page that offered seven days free. I'd like to try it before paying. If you recommend me so we both save, I wonder if I would get the free trial.

Can I use a Tivo with YouTube TV? I know YT offers unlimited recording, but I do have the Tivo. Can you set YouTube to record a show every time it's on?

Yes you can, but be aware that if it is on a sports day and the sport runs into OT, the recorded show will be affected as the recording starts at the planned start time of the show - not the actual start time due to delays... With the technology where it is, one would think they could set the recordings to start when the show starts vs the planned start time...

ps: I have no info on TiVo - sorry

I think you’ll like UTube TV. You need internet anyway, so YouTube TV (which also provides local channels) plus maybe one or two premiums such as Hulu, NetFlix, or HBO Max is still a lot cheaper than cable with more content.
