I like doing business with Amazon but caution everyone to make sure you are dealing with AMAZON! Look to see if they are the seller or if it is a "sponsored" seller. I have had a few problems ordering from Amazon but only with these sponsored sellers. Now if I see something I like, I check to make sure it is actually from Amazon. I bypass anything showing otherwise.

I never knew that. Can you please explain what to look out for?

I am a Prime Customer (UK) which means that I pay a subscription once a year and most things are next-day delivery which I take to mean from Amazon's warehouse. The other sellers usually state when to expect delivery.

Perhaps I had one of those that you are referring to last week when I got a message from Amazon informing me that the Seller hadn't stated when the product would be posted and that I could cancel it. I didn't cancel the product but about 5 days later I got a message from Amazon that they had not heard from the Seller and have cancelled the product and my money will be refunded to my bank account.

I must say that I have not had any problems at all and when I have had to contact Customer Service to state my point if I wasn't happy, I was given a refund and told to either keep the product, donate it or dispose of it. I usually kept it.

I buy quite a bit of things from Amazon but they are also laying off a bunch of folks.

I agree with all of the positive comments made. However, the other side of the coin is the damage Amazon can do to your bank account. Have you ever gotten up in the middle of the night and couldn't go back to sleep? I turn on my computer and out of boredom browse and one way or another wind up on the E Bay or Amazon site. Ordering is sooo
easy and I'll have the items the next day.
Its a good thing the return process is easy.

I ordered two items from Amazon at 11AM yesterday and they said they’d be delivered between 4 and 8 AM today. I don’t know what time they were delivered but they were here at 6:30. There’s an Amazon distribution center a few miles from our house so in this case I guess that has something to do with it.
I’d love to see the inside of an Amazon facility and get some incite into how they decide what and how many items they store in these facilities.

Think about the Draconian production quotas Amazon workers have to endure to meet such delivery objectives.

They've built one in my town, too. It's sat unoccupied/unused ever since completion, about a year now. I understand there are numerous such throughout the country.

I think the reason for the excellent service is not so much the workers but the computerized system they have designed whereby the product is selected from inventory, packaged, labeled for shipment and transferred to the loading dock without being touched by humans.

With over a million employees, I doubt they are all non-production staff.

I’m a certified at least once a week Amazon purchaser. Often I find needed “things” out or just not stocked by local merchants. And often I don’t know that without driving there. My SUV gets about 22 mpg, so just a drive to find out often costs more than the cost difference of just buying from Amazon. And Amazon delivers inside my garage so porch pirates are not a worry. Yeah, I miss the 1995 days with the deep book discounts, but I’m still a pleased Amazon shopper even though you have be more price aware now than before. Actually, one last point, I believe Amazon gathers information about its users. Depending on which email I used to log in with occasionally produced a different price for the same item. Not so much anymore but, I never quite figured that one out.

I am another convert too! They are amazing. I would better spend my time doing something other than traipsing around shoos only to be told “we don’t have that”.

It's not only that a brick and mortar store might not have the particular product you're looking for, but even if they do nobody stocks the selection of models and brands of that product you can find on Amazon.

Stan, apparently you are reading something into my statement that I did not want to imply. I am sure Amazon has thousands of employees working the phones, programing computers, maintaining their production equipment and loading and delivering products. My message was intended to be that they have designed an automated system that removes a major cost from their processes. They have also strategically located warehouses to speed deliveries. Amazon is an excellent example of capitalism at work and as long as they are fair and honest they deserve the rewards.

Speaking of donations I'm not happy Amazon is discontinuing the Amazon Smile program that lets customers direct a contribution to the cause of their choice.

I am also disappointed since my cause was the California rifle and pistol association (take that Jeff Bezos).
