I used to go down to Mexico for tack and swim meets many years ago. I quit going when it got to be too dangerous. Besides, all those that can run, jump or swim are in the US. now.

Sad, isn't it?! This is what happens when both political parties allow an uncontrolled border with a quasi 3rd world country. The left wing wants another secure voting block for their agenda and the right wing wants an endless supply of cheap labor which drives down the cost of labor for those who are already well off. Is it any wonder we are witness to the rapid decline and probable death of the middle class? The very last real man we had as a president was Teddy Roosevelt. He went head on against the ultra rich and demands of his own party for the welfare of the people of his nation. The WORLD needs more like him![/quote]

Please if you get another Teddy may we borrow him - we are here in UK just as deep in the grey suits sh*te.

In turn if we find another Churchill we'll gladly lease lend him to you (for money of course)

All we get now is TV personalities with a depth of understndaing of a slug, and pressure groups behind them that would tie any normal person in knots...

We may as well be Russians.....

Absolutely NOT - The bad part of Cancun is wayyyy of the main street - same with Playa Del Carmen - Just like San Francisco & New York - those who think Cancun is close to the drug cartel violence need to check the map. Go by facts not hearsay. Sure take logical precautions and enjoy your trip.

I'm not asking about Mexican border towns or Mexico City. I won't even travel to those places. I'm talking about the Yucatan Peninsula in the Gulf of Mexico, near Belize. Are the cartels and the crime as bad in that region too?

from the moment the Quakers set foot and were helped by the Natives, we never owned you. The rest, as they say, was inevitable, not helped by our bonkers King George, but you freedom was assured by your spirit, and that includes the freed slaves, the Hispanics, the Jews, the Irish (that we turfed out to steal the lands) and the Scots (that we turfed out - oh well you get the idea)

But one lesson to be learned; just as the British Empire once once a Pax Romana and generally fair (if rapacious), now you Yanks are "It" you need to keep your innate humanity.

I actually think you will, bless your cotton sox. America has never ever been short of the human touch.

Call the American Embassy in PV and see what they have to say. They should know if you are going to be in the area anyway.

Jarede NEVER carry or bring weapons into Mexico they are illegal here and the best way to get into trouble would be to do this. It you want your Jewels ripped off please bring them.

I live in Mexico albeit close-13 mi south of Tijuana and 6 miles north of Rosarito-to the border and have always felt safe. We moved here about a year and a half a go. The general consensus is if you are not involved in drug related activity and staying out of the wrong parts of town just as you would in you own home town you will have not trouble. This morning I just talked to my neighbor who spent the last month in a small mountain town in central Mexico where he says the cartels are entrenched and he says what I just said.

All this fear mongering has got to stop.

I have been in an auto accident here and found the entire process to be friendly and above board. It was the Mexican truck drivers fault and the police and insurance adjusters agreed. Repairs to my car took about two weeks all paid for by the other guys insurance. Make sure all your paper work is in order and you have all the proof of insurance on you at all times.

Come to Mexico and have a great time

Jarde is NUTS - guns - even one bullet will get you in prison - carry money LMAO - you don't even do that here - ATM machines are every where giving the daily exchange plus a normal charge - just like here. I personally do not fly into MC any more - too many direct flights with no stop in MC.
Man there is so much misinformation here about the travel on the Yucatan Peninsulas - I feel sorry for the fools who believe the rumors or think Cancun is next door to Juarez or Tijuana. i Heck its 500 mi to Vera Cruz

Jarede, you are either an absolute fool, or a very evil trouble maker. Probably botrh. Telling these folks to "carry weapons" into Mexico is, in itself, criminal. Like you want these people to spend up to twenty-five years in a filthy Mexican prison.
There is nothing on the face of this earth that is more dangerous than carrying weapons into Mexico. And, if one is caught with weapons there, the U.S. will do nothing to help you, other than visit you in prison once a month.

No truer word have been written here. When you rent a car - get the best insurance - if you drive your own down buy Sanborns Ins. (kinda AAA of MX) before crossing the boarder[. Keep all your papers hand & be polite when stopped at road blocks set up by the military - they are NOT looking to hastle you - they are looking for the bad guys.
"IF" you get stopped by a cop who wants a bribe offer 1/2 and be happy he don't write a ticket as that take a day or more to clear up - far more than the bribe. This used to be a very big problem between Cancun & the Air Port. Not any more.

Then explain the bullet holes in the walls of the University, the almost daily kidnappings, the daily gun battles and the aftermath of the dead bodies strewn all over the local streets, the entire towns that have been vacated. No it is not safe. You've been listening to the Mexican consultant too much.

You better check with your insurance company before you cross the border in your own vehicle!

"NO" USA insurance is good in Mexico!! They sell it by the month -6 mo or year. I shopped around as I knew I was going to be there for a long time - bought it over the internet from the office in Brounsville,TX - I picked it up the day we crossed into MX and renewed it over the internet for the next 4 yrs - never had to use it and I drove all over the Yucatan after driving from Brownsville to Cancun - 5 days of no hassle or problems. If you have an accident in MX you have to have insurance to pay for everything whether you are in the right or not - just so there is no question about bills & medical being paid. If not they will keep you there till you find the money.

Caramba! We don't get this news in UK I read the posts with interest. Sounds like they've made themselves a no-go, which is stupid, they could make a mint off tourists if they just thought it through.

So that's all the old ruins off limits then?

Also, see the old film 'The Wages of Fear' - nitro-glycerine oil field chauffeurs one of whom got it wrong and actually removed an entire Mexican community with the explosion - actual events I recall (I think) 1930's, film is about mid 50's.

I need to revise my view of some of the World it seems, thanks all posters for the back ground

We'll never see another like Teddy Roosevelt. God looked around this nation and decided that we weren't worthy of another like Roosevelt, so he broke the mold. My Grandfather served with Teddy and to his dying day swore that Teddy Roosevelt was the greatest man the United States had ever had lead the country, after George Washington.

I was going to post something regarding this statement but then I decided it was useless to bring any thing in that is factual as the BS is so overwhelming. Please stay out of MX as they have enough problems without you adding to them.
