Why worry about the danger of traveling around Mexico when we have so much to see in the US? I would love to see the ruins of the Maya and Aztecs but I still haven't explored all of Denali,Yellowstone and Yosemite and various places North of the border.
Throughout my life I have traveled and lived ALL OVER the western USA and there still are many places I would like to revisit now that I am retired.
My trips to MX started when my wife and I visited our daughter there and had the place to stay almost free which cost others mega $$ - the same when we moved the - a free beach front home plus many extras I could not afford here - $12 a day 3 days a week for a house keeper. Free fresh lobster & fish from the front yard.
Would I move back there again - nope just for the reasons at the top of my post - it is 100 mi to Lake Tahoe - 150 mi to San Francisco - where I go every 3 month - 75 mi Yosemite -160mi to the Redwoods. Next year will be my 60th class reunion in No. ID and I can drive through Yellowstone and take as long as I want as I am now on the 365 day a year vacation and just getting used to it after 12 yrs. LOL

Driving in Mexico is VERY safe. I've never had a problem.
Hola!
We were in Huatulco in December..........we even took a taxi to the downtown area from our resort, but we had a specific destination. Granted, it was during the day, but we felt completely safe.
