Many on this site may already know this but I just found out how tough these small data cards are. I misplaced a Lexar 64 gig card last week. Today my wife handed it to me explaining that I apparently left it in the pocket of my jeans. It went through a complete wash/dry cycle in our laundry room and came out in perfect condition. Which is a very good thing since it contained a group of photos that hadn't yet been loaded into my PC.

That would be the hard way to wipe your memory card clean.
It is a testament to the technology that is behind these memory cards. I will buy two or three at a time. I keep many at home and one or two in my bags. I never risk formatting them after I download the photos to my computer. I just number them and put them away in a drawer in my dresser.
To never be seen again? Formatting or deleting images so you can reuse the card won't hurt it.

I did that last week, but I found the card in the washing machine, let it air dry and checked the dirty images where still there all kidding aside I have had this happen a few times over the last 20 or so years and noe of the cards have sustained damage!!

I do a similar thing with rechargeable batteries. I buy them in bulk and then when they run down, I number them, put them in a drawer in my dresser, and get out some new ones to use. This system has never failed me yet.
