Am finally getting to go to the area and am not very familiar with the area. Excursion to Dry Tortugas is already planned and am intentionally leaving a lot of free time to find things to do.

In Key West, there are the Hemingway home, Truman’s Key West home he used as a retreat while President, and Mallory Square at sunset is beautiful to name a few. The architecture is particularly beautiful. Duval Street would be particularly interesting for street photography. For Ft. Lauderdale, the beaches would be the main draw and the nightlife along Las Olas Boulevard is fun.

Key West.. Take the tour tram. You'll miss so much if you don't.
Key Largo.. John Pennekamp State Park. A coral reef off shore. Take glass bottomed boat tour.

If you're driving, stop on the way from one to the other in the Miami area to see Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.

Definitely check out Everglades National Park! I visited during the peak of birds nesting, which means maximum birds, critters that like birds and bird eggs, and alligators that like critters.

Not to miss Miami Zoo. It's huge, divided into continents and has its own monorail.

So many things in the Keys! An hour's drive north of Key West is the Turtle Hospital and rescue which we found extremely interesting:

In Key West, make sure to check out the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory:

If you make it to the Ernest Hemingway house (which you should definitely do - see how many six-toed cats you can count among other things), you're only a one minute walk to the Key West Lighthouse at 938 Whitehead St, Key West, FL 33040. It's an easy walk (even for an old fart like me with a bum knee) to the top and you'll have the best views around!

And, one of our most favorite places to stroll around is the Key West Historic Seaport. Wonderful shops and even better restaurants:

For FtLauderdale if you want to do an air boat ride you have to have a reservation, like weeks in advance. To many cruise ships have excursions to them and they fill up. Everglades National Park is worth a visit and there is a tram ride at one location it too requires reservations. A fun thing to do in Ft Lauderdale is the water taxi you can see amazing houses and boats. One route will go through the cruise port where you can see some of the largest ships in the world. It is had to believe they float and move most are bigger than any of the hotels surrounding the port. There is also several historic houses in the area that you can see what the area looked like before, like little oasis in the middle of the city.

At around 4-5 almost every day the cruise ships leave a get place to get photos of them leaving is the beach at the Marriott.

I lived there 20 years. If you drive down stop at Robbies Marina on the way down to see the tarpon. Grab some lunch. The Dry Tortugas is incredible trip and the snorkeling us top notch. Lots of turtles. My house was on Cudjoe Key.
