Are manufacturers extended warranty worth the additional cost? Just received an offer to extend the original warranty of my camera for two or three years. The extension for two years starts at the expiration of the original warranty, same for the three-year warranty. I already have coverage under my homeowners for loss, damage, theft, etc.

I don’t think so. I’ve never done it and I’ve never needed it.

check your credit card and what they offer. I use a MasterCard world card and they will extend the warranty an additional year at no charge if if purchased with their card.

Just curious as I personally don't care but what does warranty have to do with main photography discussion. Shouldn't this be in a different location?

Part of the equation of whether an extended warranty is worth the cost would be what did the original warranty cover and what if any exclusions were part of the warranty. Most electronics, (which includes digital cameras), will develop issues relating to the warranty within a few months of purchase. Of course there are exceptions but if a camera system or part are going to fail it will happen sooner than later.
Personally, I would look closely at the original warranty because they often includes language which excludes certain repairs under certain circumstances. In other words what actually is covered under this extended warranty and how likely would the circumstances that might lead you to use this warranty come up.
Then there is the issue of the cost of the extended warranty. My laptop manufacturer wanted to charge me $250 for a 2 year extended warranty. Given the unlikelihood that the conditions where I would need it would occur it simply is not worth it for me to enroll in the program. Insurance is about peace of mind and warranties are a form of insurance. Ask yourself whether the peace of mind that you might gain from extending the warranty worth what they are charging you for it?
In my opinion, extended warranties are a scam that the manufacturer or retailer use to make a lot of money with little risk of having to actually do anything for the money. If I were in your situation I would not purchase the extended warranty. Weigh the risks, weigh the costs and then make your decision. That is my advise.

Same here. Extended warranties are generally a waste of money. Of the dozens of cameras and lenses I've bought over the past 23 years, I never once purchased an extended warranty and never needed one.

I had an electric water heater. One day it started to leak so I had to replace it. I went to Lowes or Home Depot (don't recall which) and they had 3 models. The basic model with a 4 year warranty was like $300. The next model up had an 8 year warranty for $400. The top of the line had a 12 year warranty for $500.
I asked my plumber for advice. He said get the basic model. They are all the same water heater. You are paying for insurance.
