Jerry is absolutely right. Before I buy any equipment, I ask myself, will this enhance my images?

What did you really learn about photography equipment from that post?

A sale isn't a sale if you don't need the item. It's good to show restraint when shopping.
Don't laugh at second-hand shops. I am a frequent visitor to "junk stores", thrift shops, charity shops, and the like. Over the years I have scored good deals on props for still-life shots, food layouts, and even some great gear. I picked up 3 super-heavy-duty light stands made by Manfrotto- you can mount a small house of these, for $100 including a case.
Y'all would be surprised what some folks donate and the money spent there usually goes to a good cause.
As for passing up that deal, well, much depends on the lights- type, brand, and condition. Cou has been worth many times the price or the kid stuff that can get you electrocuted. If you can, go back and find out- you know what they say about trash and treasure.

Should we all create a thread when we don't buy something we don't need? I think the
Main Photography Discussion section is getting over run with Chit Chat.
In my opinion. I think we are all entitled to one.

Just as a follow up.
I went back today to get the name brand of the lighting only to be told it sold earlier. The individual who bought it told the clerk he was returning his Christmas gift (same item) to B&H. This one they said was 500.00 less than he paid.
By the way. I found another Manfrotto with a gimbal head that someone was purchasing for 49.00. Missed out on that one as I would have picked it up.
Seek and you shall find.

You are 100% correct. Problem is, judging by many of the threads and posts I have read here, over the years, lots of folks buy stuff they REALLY don't need due to their suffering from chronic GAS. So perhaps there's a compromise- a special section called "Stuff I purchased that I don't recall need/ Stuff I didn't purchase because I realized I don't REALLY need it. Or perhaps, stuff I purchased and never used BECAUSE I really didn't need it and/or don't even know how to use it!
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the guy in this picture has over 4,000 cameras.

That's fine, but I still look over my shoulder when declaring I'm going to take on the wives club.

My wife and I went looking at 2nd hand stores to see what we could find. She went one way I went another. Guess what … at one place I found a Manfrotto O55x prob tripod for only 19.99.
The other place I went to I located a complete studio setup (3 black and white studio umbrellas,3 light stands and lights plus another Manfrotto mkc3 -H01 contained in a bag, all for 129.99.
Since I’m a wildlife shooter and enjoy my present equipment you might say I am nuts but I passed on both of these items. I couldn’t find another DSLR today.
Did I screw up or what?

As everybody grows to understand---a bargain is not one to you if you cannot use it. So if you have a better tripod for your shooting that Manfrotto was not a bargain unless your into re-selling. Same with the lights, although the lights are not such a bargain anyway. But if a pro events photog--you might always need more lights and stands depending on circumstances. But unbrellas are cheap and so are stands. And---do you actually need another DSLR?------------------

Yes! I'll admit that I am a sucker for sales and rebates on things that I would buy anyway. Our local supermarket will offer something like $30 off an order of $150. How can I turn down $30?
I have things on my Amazon Wish List, and if the price drops low enough, I might by it.
