Close up. I took this earlier this year. It was hanging from a pot, so the pot showed which was distracting. I cropped it then used the mask in LR to darken the pot. I went black and didn't like it, so I ended up with this. I think I'll darken it more, I just noticed the blue streak still shows a little.
BTW first time using the mask. So easy I love it.

The darker edited image looks pretty good.
But overall I think you might have gone too far. Cropped too tight and lost too much of the background.
I tried it myself... a little looser crop... sharpened the poppy itself (which also boosts "micro contrast")... darkened the background and used color replacement brush to remove all the blue.
