One way to become a better artist...
One way to become a better artist...is to look at good art. Every time I open this page I go to "Newest Pictures", this is where I get my inspiration. Thanks to all the great photographers who show their work.
But "art" is relative...
Getting inspiration from things you like is a bit different.

And work to understand why it is good art. I have spent many weekends during my growing up days going to the Chicago Art Institute. I viewed the fertility goddesses from the prehistoric era and other art examples from the various cultures coming up into the present day. It still amazes me now as to how differently good art has been viewed and explained. The muses are all around us to draw inspiration. The problem is to avoid the definitions that come about from tunnel vision attitudes.
One group, our youth, is to be listened to regarding their view of what art is. I enjoy their freshness when they talk about what they just have seen.

One way, yes.
Don't forget the other ways.
Looking is good, understanding is better, being able to do it your own way is best.
Mastery of a craft is knowing how-when and what-if, quickly & consistently. Enabling one to flow when the muse arrives.
IMHO, to be an artist starts from being attuned to all you senses in a much higher plane.
To see what is not shown, To hear what is not spoken, To feel what is not touched, and To understand even chaos.
Which the artist sieve or blend together and show with cohesion, purity and beauty that non-artists can appreciate them too.

Since the art appreciation depends on the viewer, no one else. What you are suggesting is basically to become 'an artist' one needs to change into a copycat because we like something more than another?
You seem to forget that what you like is the scene, not the technique used. There is a strong distinction there.

Other people like to look at pictures also. You should post some of yours for others to see. Back in 2012 you were asked to post a picture, and you said you would. It's never too late.

You should be looking at the work of great photographers, not the pictures you see from us amateurs on the Hog. While I admire the dedication and passion that I see in the hobbyists on this site, the photographs themselves, with a few exceptions, are predominantly, in the aggregate, an ocean of mediocrity. Not trying to insult anyone as I include myself in the assessment, but the truth is, this is a site for social interaction among photo hobbyists, not a site that embraces fine quality photography. (And any use of the word "artist" as applied to Hogs should be considered ironic.)
